I wonder if Ferrara is in the running to build them considering they built some rescues, support trucks and a new HAZ MAT.

Specifications are currently being written for the new rescues. A final draft is very close to being approved. New squad pumpers are currently on the drawing board, look for these to go out to bid by mid-2009.

I would look for the new rescues to be built by Seagrave.

FDNY already purchased a whole bunch of new engines, trucks and tower ladders so I guess some Seagrave rescues will look nice.

Supposedly all 5 rescues are being replaced and the brand new Pierce is being moved to reserve. Don't ask me why.

The front bar lights are Federal Signal combinations of LED and rotator. The rear warning lights are Whelen. According to the other site, they wanted to keep some LED's but also wanted the rotator effect to reflect and bounce off the buildings - especially in Manhattan. LED's are bright as you look at them, but they actually do not produce a single, focused, powerful beam. Evidently that beam dancing around on the buildings gives people at intersections some kind of clue to their approach. Personally I would have stuck with the LED's in the lower zones and gone will an all rotator bar, but they didn;t call and ask my opinion![/quote]

I was told that the city got a VERY large sum of money for 5 rescue rigs, to come fully equipped, with the captains of each unit having some flexibility on what they want to see on their rig. The current 5 will become spares. The old rescue 1 (E\-One/saulsbury) is now rescue 4. The E\-One/saulsbury rescue 4 had major issues and is sitting at the shops in queens. My guess is that they got a federal grant or something to be able to order 5 of them.

That's interesting news about the new rescues--It will be intriguing to see if there are individual differences for each company that are obvious.

What I don't get, if rumor is true, that the Rescue 1 Pierce is gonna go to reserve? That's kinda sketchy no? Maybe to preserve a like-new rig, which wouldn't be a bad idea in turn if one of the other Rescues go down..

MAYBE to REPLACE RESCUE 6.... That is 6-7 years old and the Mack Spare is also... Not to mention the other HME/Saulsburys are older too.

Info recieved straight from the house of R1. The plan is to replace all 5 rescues and have them come in fully equipped. Once delivered, all of the current rescues will remain as fully stocked reserves to their perspective replacements. They have not gone out for bid yet, but should be very close - specs are at DCAS (NYC's administrative folks). They're not sure, but betting on Seagrave.

Rescue 6 was only used fora short time while they had grant money for the staffing. And they even used the Alf for that rig. Could they possibly be adding a 6th rescue again? That squads are not that old either but I guess going on all the all hands they will get beat, and rack up the miles.

Trust me, don't count on Rescue 6 being opened again. Our SCUMBAG Mayor wants to close more companies permanently, why would he want to reopen one? So the Mack MR/General Safety is gone? What will become of the ALF Condor? Spare I suppose. It would be a good move to go with the Seagrave Marader II. Looks like they are going to be the future for the time being.

Any word on how the new pumps are working out? Are any in service yet?

No, he was refering to the last '85 Mack/Saulsbury that had been kept in spare status. It was R-5's former rig. As for the ALF/Condor, it will probably remain in spare status. I see it in use quite a bit.

Marc, Any plans on moving any of the Satelites around once the front line rigs are upgraded to the 2000gpm pumps?

I haven't heard of any Chad. I doubt that they will because that will mean more companies having to be trained on how to operate them, and more companies having to send guys to chauffer school since each one of the engines where the Satellite are assigned is required to always have 2 chauffers working.

FDNY Rescue Companies sure cause lots of chatter on the web.

So what is the deal with the current Rescue 1? Is the big truck not holding up? How is Rescue 2 doing? It is rarely talked about.
