Continuing with the Olathe, Kansas Fire Department Photo's
Olathe Fire House Two during 1973. Engine 2 was staffed with one Lt. and one Fireman sometimes with two Fireman for a three person engine. They even occasionlly allowed Engine 2 to run with one Fireman or Lt. and Engine 3 and Truck 1 would provide assitance from Fire House One downtown.
Fire House Two was moved in 1989 father north and a Fire House Three was constructed farther south in Olathe. This building was then leased to Johnson County Med-Act for the county ambulance. Six months later in 1990 it was determinded that this fire house was needed and should not have been moved. Olathe during this time operated Three Engines and One Truck each with four person staffing. The city did not want to provide funding to reopen this fire house so the Truck Co. Captain and the fourth firefighter off each engine were removed to form Engine Co. 4 and this Fire House reopened as Fire House 4. The Truck Co. Captain was renstated four years later. The Fire House underwent a major face lift in 1994 an does not even look the same as in 1971 when constructed.
Fire House Two Units in 1973
1962 K model
Seagrave Pump Engine No. 2 1000gpm
1957 R model International-General pump I believe Engine No.4 a reserve on loan from US Navy This pump was loaned to Olathe when the Olathe Naval Air Station fire department was disbanded around 1971. Olathe and Gardner, Kansas each recieved a fire unit or units to provide joint fire protection at the Naval Air Station.
? Tanker might be on loan from the Navy also explained above.
