Well I managed to sell my Ward/Young, she is going back into service in Costa Rica, so this starts a new journey with my favorite piece of apparatus ever built.
This is my 1968 Young Crusader that I have purchased from Dansville NY. She was recently removed from service where she was still the front line unit. The rig was refurbed in 86' and in 87' the Wakasha motor blew, they then put in a Detroit with and automatic tranny. Has a 1000 gallon tank with 1250 two stage pump.
The body is, or I should say was tall due to the 5" hose, I have already removed the extensions and some other items that give it a strange look. I am going to make some changes, but try to keep it as original as I can. I have already started getting prices for new gold leaf, and it turns out the gentalman I have been in contact with is the same guy who originally gold leafed it out of the factory. We have started buffing her out and let me tell you, I love imron (not sure on spelling) paint, just glad I never had to breath it. A good buffing compound and a buffer and almost looks like new.

Good to hear it's found a good home. I live in Rochester and went to college at Alfred State. In the pre-I 390 days the drive was right by the Dansville Fire house, remember seeing it there many times in my travels. Best of luck with it!

I'm very young, so this is one of the few times I've seen a Young Crusader. Pretty sweet name for a truck too. Nice to see another engine retired to a good owner who's gonna keep her in a dry warm place.

Thank you everyone. I should have some shots of what I have done so far tomorrow. In the mean time here are a few out of the album of about 200 photos that the guy I was in contact with from Dansville allowed me to borrow and make copies. I have original photos from delivery, and over a hundred shots of the rig through the refurb.
Is this ironic or what, I was going through the slides of the refurb, and they took shots of other rigs at Young in production or getting work done. Well, I come across shots of South Line engine 1 which happens to be the first engine I ever drove, and pumped on a working fire when I was 18. Another photo shows a line of rigs in the plant and the second one in line is the Ward LaFrance/Young I own now (I should say just sold). I will post that shot later.

No, if you noticed the officers side wheel is different from the drivers side, they had it replaced and told me they didn't realize that they were not matched. I am going to change the drivers side to match. The two hole spud is my favorite wheel on fire apparatus.
