VFD, also in Fayette County. At the time of my visit to Monarch in 03, they had just replaced the x-Connellsville Mack CF with a 1991 IH N/KME 1250/1000, X MT. Pleasant,SC. BJW Fire Co. in Clearfield County, PA. purchased the Quarryville Mack CF/Hamerly tanker when Quarryville received their new tanker in 1998 or 1999?. The tanker is now painted yellow with a black stripe.

GFD 1, you are right. According to Harvey Eckart in book: Mack Fire Apparatus, a Pictorial History, there is a picture of the three open cab B - Models, and the caption on the next page states they were delivered to the Hamilton Fire Brigade in 1960. "These were the first Mack diesels to be used in fire apparatus and were of the turbocharged design of 230 horsepower." That was quoted by Mr. Bulldog himself.

Some additional info on the shots you have posted. Keep them coming. Bruce Point Pleasant (from Al Powell’s files) 1973 Internatioanl Fleetstar 2010A, std.conv.cab, elliptical stainless steel converted milk tanker from Gardenville Dairy, 300/3200,tandem rear axles, 549 cu.in 10 speed, Hale PTO pump, 3000 gal Porta-Tank, 10 in.rear dump, ext.ladder carried on officer’s side, in PA M 1-98 offered for sale-asked $26,000-in 1978 sold to Prescott (Lebanon Co.),PA Lionville 1977 Autocar DA chassis - purchased new and had the 3500 gallon Allied tank from the 1967 Mack R chassis remounted on it. It was housed on 6/25/77. The tank was removed in late 1991 due to it was leaking very badly and the company could not patch it anymore. The tank was sold to Trego Hauling of Lionville. The chassis was sent to 4-Guys to have a new elliptical tank mounted. It was replaced in 11/08 and sold to the Golden Age of Trucking Museum in Middlebury CT to be displayed in the museum. A fitting end to a long term of service for a great truck! The vehicle will be displayed in the museum as it is with Lionville Fire Company lettering left as is. It will be placed OOS on 11/3, and will leave on 11/11 for it’s new home. Quarryville 1977 Mack CF-686-FC-1201/Hamerly, canopy cab, 1000/2500, cabinet style tandem axle tanker, Mack Endt-676 diesel engine, 285 HP, 5-speed manual transmission, and a 3 KW Onan generator. It was delivered 11/77 at a cost of $85,000. It was refurbed in 1988 by LTI for $72,000 which included new compartments, 10’’ Newton dump valve, and a 3 KW generator installed. Replaced and sold in 2000 to the B.J. Woodland Fire Company (Clearfield County) who repainted it all yellow. Brecknock (from Al Powell’s files) 1968 GMC 5500 V-6/4-Guys (8-25-78), std.conv.cab, 450 PTO/1600, stainless steel elliptical tank body, in 1991 sold to Austin (Potter Co.),PA where re-chassied with 1975 Intl Robert Fulton 1971 International 1300/Pierce Mustang, mini-pumper, 250/250, 2.5 KW portable generator, V-8 gas, 4-speed manual transmission, 4x4 field piece. The pump was rebuilt in the summer of 1996. The pump was removed in 2005 and put on the Ford F550 chassis, the remaining placed up for sale on E-Bay. Sold to an individual in Middletown, PA. New Berlinville (from Al Powell’s files) 1983 AMC Jeep Scrambler, 8/90, field piece, housed 8-25-84, black vinyl cab roof, tubular steel roll bar behind cab with bar lights mounted on top, cab with full doors, tailgate removed, dd rear step added, 14 in.Stihl chainsaw, 18 in.Stihl chainsaw, five 10 gal collapsible vests, 2 Pulaski axes, 2 brush brooms, 2 brush rakes Chalfont (from Al Powell’s files) 1958 Mack B-85/Harwick, std.conv.cab, custom full-width cabinet style tanker body, 1700 gal capacity, carried 35 ft ext.ladder in body bed, in 1981 original body with extensive rust removed and replaced with used fuel delivery tank body-1968 Quaker City-Heil 3000 gal, in 1989-original chassis retired and replaced with used 1980 Mack R tandem axle chassis, by 2004 chassis appeared in New England parade with flat bed body hauling hand-drawn antique hose carts-cab doors still lettered CHALFONT FIRE CO.-bodysides lettered WESTBURY ANTIQUE FIRE DEPT.-privately owned in CT

I see under your Quarryville tanker info you have it as going to B.J.Woodland Fire Co. The B and J stand for Bigler & Jackson. Hope that helps. Patrick

This was my first Custom engine that I was ever on it was sold to Crucible in about 1992. I wish I could have bought it but I had too many other truck that were in much better shape. I did find a buyer for it but then they said that is was not for sale anymore. These photos were taken several years ago and now it is in very bad shape just rotting away next to the firehouse. |
