Philly has two types of reserve apparatus. 100 series apparatus are fully equipped and are typically used when a front line piece needs short term repairs done. 200 series apparatus don't have any equipment on them and companies need to switch over to put them in service. They are used for longer term repairs. They are numbered according to the engine of the firehouse where they are kept. I.e., E212 is a 200 series apparatus stationed with E12 in Manayunk. Pieces with 90,91,92,etc in their designation are kept at the shop; 80&81 in the designation denotes apparatus stationed at the Fire Training Academy.

Here's a photo of Ladder 5's "new apparatus". It's a 2007 American LaFrance that was formerly assigned to Ladder 1. The piece was reassigned to Ladder 5 after Ladder 1 was closed on 1/05/09.

It will be reassigned to Ladder 6. The streets in the area covered by Ladder 5 are too tight for tower to get around easily.

7 companies closed with the click of a mouse. Crying a** shame. And Philly is always making fires. Wow. Do any other city services get cut back too?

Any ideas where the rigs from the closed companies are being re-assigned?

Thanks for the info, no matter how said it is.

There were cuts to most other city services. A number of libraries were closed, etc.. It's funny, the closing of the libraries got most of the press. Just remember, fires are down.

The full list of reassignments hasn't been announced yet. The only other change that has been made public, officially, is Engine 8's 1998 ALF squrt will be reassigned to Engine 55.

I do have some but they're not my photos. I don't post other people's photos. The final inspection on the first one was done the other day. It will be a little while until it is delivered.

No, the second tower ladder is now scheduled to be assigned to Ladder 22. This may change the way things are going lately.
