1983 Pierce Arrow 1500/750 8V92 Detroit
Caplinger Mills, Missouri Fire Department Ex Merriam, Kansas Fire Department purchased new in 1983 This Engine had an intresting history. About six months after delivery an arsonist broke in to our fire house and took the radios out of this engine and our 1980 Pierce Arrow/LTI 85ft Tower Ladder and torched them. Pierce rebuilt both units with Arrow cabs off the line. So it has a refurb number now. The arsonist was caught by KHP and conviced. The career firemen on duty used the 1968 Ward LaFrance Mark I to put the fire out. This was the Captains last shift before retiring and he was injuried by hot metal before he got his 3/4 boots on. Sadly in the 1990's we removed all of the gold leaf and added the white strip.

1983 Pierce Arrow Ex Merriam, Kansas
This was the best fire engine we ever owned next to our 1962 American LaFrance 900 pump. That 8V92 could scream and with the Q siren maxed watchout, three pulls on the horn cord and no brakes. I got broke in driving on this fine machine.

1980 Pierce Arrow/ LTI 85ft Tower Ladder 1250/250 and Lots of ground ladders.
Ex: Merriam, Kansas Fire Department now in Alabama some where. Cab was damaged in the arson fire listed in the last post. Refurbed and returned to service. The lightbars were added in 1990's and the Federal Power Lights were removed. The gold leaf was also removed and the strip changed twice before leaving in 2004. It was a great machine and is missed.

They told me this was the shortest wheel base pump Pierce has built. Reminds me of the Seagrave Shortys
