is the Blessing of the Fireboats an annual thing and do they do the same for the police boats at the same event?

Thanks for posting, great photos of the Harbor units

Nice photo, one of two boats the NYPD has like this. The plan is to have a fleet of ten. Article from the NY Daily News

NYPD going green, article from the Tuesday Juy 8 2008

NYPD is trying out a new style scooter. LPD tried one for a week and will be purchasing one soon. They are pretty cool and zip around at a good clip

NYPD is definitely ready for the New Years festivities in the Times Square area. Very unique surveillance platform.

That seems like a mighty big wrecker to tow off that little 3-wheeled parking cart <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

It's assigned to the Traffic Division, Parking Enforcement District ("PED") as seen in the command assignment next to the vehicle number on the side. A wrecker of this size would be called to remove a commercial vehicle in a tow away zone to a tow pound. They may also be called to relocate commercial vehicles legally parked but need to be moved due to an emergency (i.e. Steam/manhole explosion) or to secure a frozen zone (i.e. Times Square on New Year's Eve).

With those big day-glo Orange bumper edge markers they've clearly had issues with their operators hitting things with that huge push bumper not realizing how wide it is compared to the truck cab.

In additional to a roll call of of those members of SOD who have died in the line of duty they also have several static displays and a air sea rescue demo.
Anyone know if/when they are doing this event in 2009? With the budget cuts, wasn't sure if this event would get the axe. Has it normally taken place at the end of April? Anyone have any contacts at SOD that I could reach out to for more info? You can send me a PM if you'd like, thanks in advance and stay safe!

Have not heard yet. I don't think $$$$ is a issue. Usually its the last Saturday in April.

19?? RTS assigned to Transit Manhattan Task Force (TMTF)

This is part of the MAPC (Mobile Arrest Processing Center) bus. This bus was/is used to hold prisoners while their paper work is processed in another bus (the command post bus). The interior has a regular transit bus interior, the prisoners are handcuffed to the bars on the seats. Not sure if it has been used for that purpose lately. It was used regularly at one point to handle protests, demonstrations, and general "sweeps" where emphasis was placed one making a large number of arrests in a given area to combat any spikes in crime. I found it outside Transit District 34 (Coney Island).

Hi

The SOD Annual Rememberance Day is to be held on Saturday April 25th 2009. It is sponsored by the Retired Emergency Man's Association (REMA)

I will be there with my son again, it is a good take and rather somber during the reading the roll of those who died in the Line Of Duty.

The military has an up armored version of this that we used. It was quite nice, actually. Memphis PD has one that they use on Beale St on certain occasions. I'm always tempted to go lower it.........drunken shenanigans.

In NYC, there usually is another officer assigned to guard the bottom for just that reason. Sometimes on foot, or if the weather is crappy, in a three wheel scooter, or occasionally a car.
