Glen Ellyn,IL 1964 Mack C/Pitman 64' [/quote] This is my all time favorite Snorkel. That Pierce rescue body is unique and very handsome. The truck is currently apparently in Neon, KY and in service. I would love to one day acquire this truck. I used to visit family in Glen Ellyn every summer for their big parade on July 4th and this was always my favorite, a truly beautiful rig. Does anyone have photos of it in service in Neon KY?? J
Funny story about that rig: a couple of years ago, I was coming back to Virginia from my in-laws place in Kentucky, and saw an ambulance for Neon, KY at a gas station. I stopped and talked to them, and the guys welcomed me to follow them back to the station. Good thing they offered - I have been to some very rural, mountainous stations in my lifetime, but this one took the cake. I shot everything in the "main station," and they said we'd have to go to the substation across town to get the ladder. Well, the "substation" is an old empty grocery store, and "across town" was a 2-block walk around the corner.
Well, we opened the door, and lo-and-behold, there sits the Mack in all it's glory. Actually, there it sat, let's just say. Sitting in the back corner covered in 10 years of dust, dirt, old auto parts, tarps, town banners, and other sundry items, it had definately seen it's better days. It hadn't been started in years, and there was so many old cars and lawn mowers parked around the thing, photography was next to impossible. I did get a couple of shots (and don't kill me for this), but they've since disappeared from my computer. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I will be going back to KY in the spring, and will make every effort to stop back at Neon and get the photos for everyone on the board. Wish me luck! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
