Scott, Additional info on the Oakmont rigs: 1977 Pirsch, Cincinnati canopy cab, 250/250, 100 ft aluminum rear-mount ladder, single rear axle, fully compartmented body sides, Ser. No. 3190, 6V71 Detroit Diesel, manual transmission, and manual outriggers. Replaced in 1995 and they had a tough time selling this. It was loaned to Gilbralter (Berks County) for the month of March - 1998 with the intent on buying it, purchased by them with the 1983 Pirsch pumper for $50,000 who repainted it YW. For sale 06/03. 1988 Sutphen, 4-door 7 man cab, 1250/500, Detroit 8V71N, 350 HP, automatic, 6.5 KW Onan water cooled diesel generator. First 4-door ordered by the company. Placed into service in 2/88. Sold in 1999 to West End of Kulpmont (Northumbland County) for $80,000 who repainted all black by L&J Autobody of Mount Carmel. Interesting color I migh add.

Here are some more PA rigs.
the Apollo Hose Co. 2 still owns this nice 1954 Oren custom-pumper, that was constructed on a Duplex chassis. It has a 750 gpm-pump and a 300 gwt. John Schmidt photo
Apollo Hose 2 also has this 1988 Ford C 8000/Pierce. It has a 1250 gpm-pump, 500 gwt and 50' Tele-Squrt. John Schmidt photo
Truck 1 in Butler operates a 1999 ALF Eagle 134 with bodywork from 3-D Fire Apparatus and 105' Aerial Innovations midmount ladder. John Schmidt photo
Engine 44-2 in South Strabane is a 1995 Pierce Dash with 2000 gpm-pump and 1000 gallon-tank. John Schmidt photo
The Crescent Twp FD has this 1989 Simon-Duplex D 500 with Ranger rescue-pumper body. It has a 1500 gpm-pump and carries 500 gallons of water and 200 gallons of foam. John Schmidt photo
The Crscent Twp FD also has this compact tanker. It is a 1998 International F 2674 with bodywork from New Lexington. It has a 1000 gpm-pump and a 1550 gallon-tank. John Schmidt photo
The Scott Twp FD has two very interesting pumpers. Engine 2571 is a 1989 Mack MR with Ranger bodywork. It has a 1500 gpm-pump and carries 500 gallons of water and 40 gallons of foam. John Schmidt photo.
With its enclosed top-mount pump it looks more like a pumper from Minnesota.
Even more unique is this engine from Scott Twp FD. I have very little info except the chassis is a 1976 Mack R. Maybe a rebuilt unit ? I hope, our experts from PA knows more. John Schmidt photo
That is a pretty cool looking mid-mount. You don't tend to see mid mounts much these days.

Butlers Ladder has a rear mount pump!! one of the few ever built. It spends more time in the shop thatn in service. They have had ALF out there countless times to address a miriad of problems that still have not been resolved. All of this has been since the date of purchase.
Glendales Engine were both rehabed units.
They have now rechassed the MR Ranger Body to a Spartan Chassis. Work was done by Keystone Fire Apparatus, McKees Rocks
Anyone have any more info on this truck. I am confused to why it is duel axel in the rear with only a 1550 tank? a single axle would handle this just fine. |
