After a few stops with no luck, I finally found someone home at Newland VFD. Unfortunately, there was nowhere close to get driver's side photos of the trucks, and the ramp pulls directly onto the street. So I had to do the best I could.

Plus, the guy pulling the trucks out was in a hurry so he could go pick his kid up at school.

This truck used to be a tanker with an oil-tanker style body on it, but Newland VFD sent it to Cook Truck Body in Charlotte, NC back in the 1990's and this is the result.

Despite a few attempts, I had to drive to Watauga, TN to find another willing soul to drive a fire truck! Their engine was out for repairs, but their tanker, brush truck, and support truck were there.

They also had a support truck (a.k.a. an ambulance) that they posed beautifully for me! However, they were so excited to show off the equipment in the truck, that they got me sidetracked, and I forgot to take a picture of it! I've kicked myself ever since then for not shooting it!

For all the note-takers like myself, here are the specs...

I made another stop or two without luck, however by accident, I came across Johnson City's newest station!

I attempted another stop or two after leaving Station 9 with no luck either, however little did I know what awaited me at the last stop of the day. By this time it was getting pretty dark, and my only intent was to look in station windows to get information for the database. The last stop of the day was the United-Baileyton VFD in Greene County, TN. Most of you remember some of the stuff I've posted from Greene County. There are dozens of old northern trucks serving there, so I knew United had to have something neat. After looking in the windows for 15 minutes, a gentleman driving a Chevy S-10 truck with a tag that said "Papaw Jim" stopped by the station. He was happy to let me inside & show me around, but he only had time to move one truck, because he had to get back home & start working on his hay again. You'll see why I chose this truck!

United-Baileyton had a couple other interesting trucks, most of which were built by smaller companies or locally made. They had two tankers, two brush trucks, a new KW/Pierce Contender engine, and a Weapons Carrier, but the only other thing that struck my interest was a 1971 F750/Ward LaFrance engine that formerly served "Canton Fire Dept." It had Spec # 73-605. Anyone out there with a Ward LaFrance database?

The next trip started out in Northview-Kodak, TN at Station 2. Dave, Mark, Micah, and I shot NKVFD Station 1 in late 2007.

After stopping at a few of Seymour VFD's stations, only to find nobody home at either of them, we continued on to Blount County, TN.
