Nevada, Missouri Fire Department

built 1951

At the time Nevada did not own an aerial so the bays were built for three engines. The fire house is extremely small and they have out grown it and would like a new fire house. Some fire units are stored behind the fire house in an old building.

Rescue Truck and Engine are up front

Potawatomi Tribal, Kansas Fire Department (north or Topeka, Kansas on US75) They protect the reservation and a casino. Pictured is the old volunteer fire house and new career fire house.

They started in the early 1990's as a volunteer fire department for the reservation and expanded to fully career when the casino was built in the early 2000's. They have seven firemen per shift which is a mix of FF/EMT and FF/Parmedic. They staff one engine one ambulance and have crosstaffing for another ambulance, engine, tanker, or 100ft tower.

Abilene, Kansas Fire Department (eight career firemen two per shift a 40hr chief and asst chief and five-ten volunteer firemen for the county fire district.)

This is an intresting fire house, note the orginal bays attached to the city building. One bay was closed and one is still open. Then note the addtional two bays added in the 1960's or 1970's.

The closed bay is two floors now housing offices on ground then the dayroom kitchen on middle note windows. Above is the orginal building second floor note large windows but due to height should be the third floor. The one fire pole is a 40-45ft slide. When the new bays were added the orginal second floor was gutted of the dayroom, kitchen, bunkroom and refinished into a new bunkroom and large closet. They still use the orginal stair case which is very neat to acess the sceond floor.

Abilene went public safety (police as firemen) in the late 1970's and the career firemen were reduced to three drivers. In the late 1990's the fire department returned and six firemen were rehired. Now fire and police are seperate.
