I decided yesterday that I didn't want to sit at home and be bored.... so I jumped in my trusty VW and headed out for parts unknown. That is a lie.. I knew exactly where I wanted to go LOL. Here are my pictures from yesterday.. the sun only coperated every once in awhile... so some of these were taken in sun.. others were taken in not so much sun.

I don't like shooting city departments.... have I said that before? They don't like pulling stuff out, it isn't in their job description or whatever and God forbid should they go out of their way. The pumper was sitting outside which is how I shot it... two paid people came back on the gutbox and both tried to head back upstairs (they saw me shooting the pumper) as quickly as possible. I politely asked the one if he would pull the apparatus out for pictures, he pulled the tower out (it was still a little bit inside the building but I wasn't asking him to pull it out more) and once I lowered my camera he quickly put it back in wished me a nice day and closed all of the bay doors. So I didn't get info on the tower.. you are just going to have to make up the year on it in your head LOL.

OK, Fritz, time for corrections and advice.

It's Allegany County in Maryland, Allegheny County is in PA. or VA.

When in Cumberland, go to the top, or whoever is OIC. The 2-man crew of E-3 also mans a medic, that's probably who you talked to.

CFD's tower is a 1992 Sutphen 1750/300/90'

Where was Bowling Green's Quint-Rescue?

Cresaptown's Pierce Lances are a 1989 1250/1000, and a 2000 1500/1000/40; the squad has 250/300/20

Westernport's rescue is a RSI (Rescue Systems,Inc.); the brush was originally built by Bruco.

The green ALF Pioneer is a 1968 750/500, xBowling Green,MD. and it belongs to the TOWN of Westernport (no boroughs in Maryland).

Interesting that you skipped over the banana yellow co. (Rawlings) and the white w/red-yellow stripes co. (McCoole)

Christ Jesus.... I have this crap all screwed up (though the stuff at Cresaptown was not my fault... that is what I got from the guy pulling stuff out). Starting from the top:



I get nervous talking to OIC type people.... I will remember that for next time though (if I don't take you with me).



The Quint-Rescue was being worked on by the guy from Sutphen. A MFRI instructor was teaching a class with it and smashed the side of the cab with the boom... I guess Sutphen did not install a sensor or something... so they were in fixing it.



I had no idea who built the body on the rescue truck in Westernport, I was guessing at it from the look of the design. I had NO idea the brush truck had Bruco's hand in it anywhere... it was nice stuff. So it is the town of Westernport...... you can tell I am from Pa can't you LOL?? That ALF was in poor shape... the valve covers were off on each side of the motor and it was exposed to the weather. What a shame!!!



As for skipping.. not me Warren.. I don't skip ANYTHING.... there was no one around banana yellow Rawlings' firehouse and I didn't see any blue lighters in the trailer park across the street or in the town itself (what little I could find of it.. speaking of finding.. did you know that Rawlings has/had 2 sirens???). I found someone at McCoole who informed me that it is against company policy to pull stuff out for pictures and that he wouldn't do it. I also visited Keyser, WV (what a nightmare station location.. I have no idea where I could put stuff for pics), Bloomington, MD (there wasn't a soul around... what great pictures THAT would have made), Piedmont, WV (I didn't want to get out of my car... that town is WIERD!!!), Barton, Lonoconing, and Midland. I tried to get in to see the town of Luke Fire Department but it is inside the damn paper mill and they told me that I had to arrange it with their PR person because there is a no camera policy... blah blah blah... yadda, yadda, yadda. My last stop for the day was Frostburg, I was just in time for the 6:05 siren test which was awesome... I am guessing that they have a 16 port Sterling at Station 1 in the bell tower. For in case you are wondering Warren.. I found all of the sirens in town (the GCS Model 5 at Station 2, the Sterling up on the hill by Station 1 and the unknown thing behind the mini-market on Grant Street. Speaking of sirens... here were all of my sirens for the trip!!!

I'd be sad too if I was painted that shade of green. It almost matches the shade of green that the NJ Department of Corrections used to require our cell block be painted in our old police station. And that's where our only rest room was located.

LOL, it is much neater in person than it looks in the picture... plus it is metallic which makes it stand out really nicely!!

Bowling Green has had several different shades of green on their rigs since the 1st one was delivered in 1954 (GMC/Howe), which was a dark green, similar to the current pickup trucks. In the 60's, the green was lightened somewhat, shown on the 1970 Chevy stepvan BGVFD once had. In the mid-80's, when the 68 ALF Pioneer was rehabed, it was painted in the "jade green" color, which is used on the 2 Sutphens.

Too bad you seem to have missed the FEB.09 issue of the MD. Fire Dispatch, which had a photo feature on Bowling Green.

It does happen from time to time... I didn't think there was a policy against it.. I just think he was busy or in a hurry or something of that nature so he didn't want to pull the stuff out but didn't want to come right out and say it.
