rdoucette.....it was six Hahns. 1979's were Engines 11,21,31,41. 1983 was Engine 32, and the last ('83 or '84) was originally Engine 12.



41 was OOS for a lengthy period with out of round brake drums, otherwise the Hahns were aswesome workhorses.

no i didn't......22 was Engine 11 tranfered from Co 1. the brothers at 1 did NOT want to lose the 1973 Maxim F when the 1983-4 Hahn came in, so the 1979 was transfered to the south end and became 22

Glastonbury's Hahn inventory was quite reliable and were always a strong rig. All 4 companies have always taken a great deal of pride in their apparatus, which helped them live on for many years. The Hahn legacy was prominent in town well past 25 years. Sadly however, as all good things, the end came in 2009 when the last Hahn was taken from service. In "another life form" however, two Hahns still exist. Engine 31 and 21 were taken to Ocala FL and re-manned with glider kits. One being a 50' quint, the other a pumper.



1980 brought 4 1979 Hahns to Glastonbury. All had 6V92 Detroits with 5 speed Spicers

**2 were 1000/500 (Engines 11 and 21) and 2 were 1000/750 (Engines 31 and 41)

***Late 80s, tanks replaced to poly (Engine 11 and 21 500) (Engine 31 and 41 750)



In 1983, another Hahn was purchased having an 8V92TA Detroit with a 5 Speed Spicer

**That was a 1000/1000 (Engine 32)

*** The tank was replaced in the early 90s with a 1000 poly, but an overflow was added after so the rig only to allow the rig to hold 800



In 1985 The last Hahn was purchased with a 6V92TA Detroit with a 5 Speed Spicer

** That rig was a 1500/500 (Engine 12)

***In the late 90s a 750 poly tank was added

31 and 41 were delivered with 750 gallon tanks.......i know, i served in 3's for several years.

the original 1979 order was for 3....2 with 500 gals and 1 750. the fourth (E-41) was an add-on due to a crash that totaled the previous E-41, a series 700 LaFrance while enroute to a chimney fire. that piece was virtually incinerated. with the 1983 with 1000 gals (E-32) we had the option to wait for the new cab or take the truck with the older style cab. we optioned for the older cab to get the piece faster.

Does anyone know how to upload pictures here, I was able to find all of my albums, and wanted to post the G'bury Hahns. Additionally thanks for passing the info along....my notes are a little rusty!!

E-22 and "Ladder 31" are the two gliders. the 1983 that started as a 1000gallon tank is listed as E-61

yes....but which of the 79's were glidered i can't tell you other than i KNOW it was NOT the original E-11. further down the page in retired pieces E-22 (orig E-11) is shown on a flatbed.



also.....FWIW, i believe the E\-One E-22 is offline, replaced by a Spartan/Marion that i saw at the chief's show in June.

The 85 (E-12) was pretty tired. It had a fair amount of cab rot, but it ran very well. Co1 took very good care of it, and it lasted them many good years. Additionally many complained that it was a horrible rig to drive (hard to shift). It was possibly the only "new cab" design Hahn built with a manual tranny? I personally operated it many times, it was a great rig to drive and it pumped like a champ. The 83 (E-32) was also pretty worn, and had a fair amount of rot. It was a hell of a good running rig, and pumped awesome!! The 83 ran as a spare in the fleet for a good clip. Both the 83 and the 85 were removed from service close to the same time period. The two E\-One gliders were assigned to Co 2 and Co 3. The 79 Hahn which was E-21 became EQ-21, the E\-One 50' Quint. The 79 Hahn which was E-31 became the E\-One pumper and was assigned as E-31. In recent years the quint has been re-assigned to Co 3 as Ladder 31, and the pumper is now E-61, a spare Engine. Glastonbury now has become a prominently Spartan/Marion department. They have been a very good apparatus, and continue to serve the town with pride.

The ALF Virtually incinerated,ok!! Besides the heavy f.e. damage, the cab was burned off of it..

actually, the engine i looked at at the chief's show (E-22)seems pretty nice. are they decent pieces?
