Confusion is understandable - this is a Canaan Fire Co. rig, Canaan Fire Co. covers the Town of North Canaan and Falls Village Fire Dept. (among others cover the town of Canaan). I believe that Young may have also had something to do with building the body of this truck. This truck is still in service as Canaan Truck 8, mostly used for brush fires.

Gas in Canaan is about $1.60 (around $2.78) a gallon more that when this shot was taken.

Hoss, no problem. I like to share what I have, that is one of the reasons why I post.

If needed I will send a full size scan of it.

If I remember my "valley history" correctly, this rig was East End Hose Co.'s (Org. in 1950) second pumper and was purchased in the late 1960's / early 1970's when the company was still independent from the Derby Fire Department. When they became part of the city department around 1976, this truck was was replaced by a GMC / Pierce pumper they had until being replaced around 1995 with their current Pierce Dash.

I forgot that NHFD's old Sutphen had a "gum-ball machine" on it. I know this rig ran as Truck 1A (spare) for a few years after it was replaced. I believe it was replaced in the mid-1990's with another Sutphen tower.

nice pic Ed.....looks like a real sweet ride.

i do have a question.....and i am in NO WAY finding fault or anything like that. what's going on "under" the driver's side front bumper in your pic? is that some sort of double exposure or just perhaps the way the sun was hitting something?
