Karl, The Gold Stripes were new with this last order of Quantums. I believe Rescue 28 was the first to get it then the new 7 engines and a few of the quints have it as well. It doesn't denote anything extraordinary just a little change
The gold stripes appear on the new Engine 45, as well as the rest of the order of Pierce Contenders that are on order (4 more). They also appear on the brush truck, and the new Battalion trucks will sport them as well.
You may also be seeing a new AFD logo in the near future as well. Seth Granville

For anyone keeping track, Engine 1 is back from repairs as of July 2009 after being involved in a collision that heavily damaged the front end of the apparatus a few months ago when another car blew a red light. Some things need to be done at the AFD shops before it returns to service.
Sorry for the lousy shot. Seth Granville

Austin FD placed the new Engines 9,11,12, and 16 into service today. All are 2009 Pierce Contenders, and all sport AFD's new logo on the front doors.

The Contenders (and the new logo) look pretty good. The switch from a Quantum to a Contender is dramatic. Was this a budget issue?
