Is that the same Pumper 30 that was destroyed in that 1988 explosion that killed six brothers?

I don't think so, E\-One is striking me as what was destroyed in that blast, RIP

Here's the only info that I have on the KCMO rigs that you pictured:



Pumper 35 operated one of six 1983 American LaFrance 1500/500 pumpers, KCFD #3196 (I believe this one was ALF #8008)



One of three 1979 Seagrave Quints 1000/???/100’ RM, Seagrave #??????, KCFD #3190. I have no idea what it was running as when you shot this.



One of nine KCMO 1979 Ford C/E-One 1000/500 (Former Pumper 29), KCFD #3281. Sorry, I don’t have the E\-One number on this unit.



One of four 1975 Seagrave 1500/500 pumpers, KCFD #120. Sorry, no Seagrave numbers for this one either.





In about 1976, the Kansas City Fire Department switched from a three digit department number to the four-digit numbering system they still use today.

Sorry. The 1983 ALF's had 1250 GPM pumps, not 1500 (as I had posted). The 1979 Seagrave Quints had 300-gallon water tanks.

Hi #120 is a 1971 Seagrave 100gpm it was the first Diesel, Automatic, Closed Cab purchased. It was purchased Soild RED and repainted lime green after 1975. It was assigned to Pumper 38 on North Oak and later transfered to Pumper 25 when 38's became a Quint. Then after the 1988 explosion to Pumper 30. #120 had two plastic red siren speakers on the roof and two Red Federal Power Lights when delivered.



I have a photo of #120 in the 1975 KCFD History Book in its right RED color.



The 1975's had full high side campbell compartments with MARS lights with the Q below that. They went to Pumper's 27,36,40, and 41.

The Pumper 40's 1975 was #129.

This was Quint 11 a 1977 Seagrave 100ft. In 1990-1991ish it was returned to a 1976 Seagrave 100ft Tiller as Truck 11. The first Quints were devlivered in 1977 and the a second order was delieved on the W cab in 1979. I believe there were four of each year. In 1990 Quints 11,13,28 ran 1977 Seagraves and Quints 8,12,41,38 ran 1979 Seagraves. These were by far some of the worst rigs ever purchased they were big heavy and hard to drive in tight streets not to mention Quints. Quints have never been excepted in the KCFD they are a tradtional Engine, Truck department. In fact in 1993 Quints 8,12,13 were convered back to Trucks 8, 12, 13 with the delivery of the dry 104ft Sutphen sticks. Truck 11 ran the 1976 tiller until 1997 when the took Truck 9's refurbed 1986 Tiller.



The reserve fleet was a 1964/1981 E\-One-Henderickson 75ft Snorkel, 1976 100ft Seagrave mid mount, and four 1976 Mack MB pumpers.

Pumper 8,11,17,18,32,35 were the ALF Century's.



Pumpers #8,11,35 recieved White over Red repaints in 1990. Pumper 11 had black wheels. Pumpers #17,18,32 remained White over Lime Green until retirment in 1997. All had big Whelen Strobe bars when delivered and Pumpers 8,11,17,35 were convered to these big Federal Aero Dynic's and Pumper 32 recieved a Code 3 XL light bar.



Pumper 8,11,18 added Federal Q2b sirens to their rigs also.



Chief Green from Denver was losing his job and to make peace with the union he authorized the switch back to RED. He lost his job after the switch, however the rig returned to the proper color.

Thanks so much for all of your help brother. My sister used to live in KCMO and I was able to get a few shots when I visited her in 1991 and 1996. I remember hanging out with FDNY's Bob Pressler at the quarters of Truck 2 til the wee hours of the morning during the 1996 IAFC Convention. Of course no fires came. Not sure if you ever get to St.Louis or not but we've got 2 good fire engine rallys coming up. St.Louis is Sept 12 and Jefferson County (just south of SL) is Sept 26.

41 Pumper was a 1987 E\-One Hurricane (Federal Box Cab). 41's was the rig that was on the cover of the KC Star and Times. It was the less damaged although totaled. Pumper 30 was in between the explosion and Pumper 41. Pumper 30 was vaporized not much left at all. Pumper 30 sheilded Pumper 41 that is why the shell was left of 41's. After the explosion 41's took Quint 42 a 1979 Seagrave 100ft and Squad 42 a 1979 E\-One/Chevy C65 Midi-Pumper and the new 1990 E\-One Protector went to become Pumper 42. Pumper 41 was restablished in 2006 when all Quints were disbanded and disposed of. Truck 8 was moved from 37's to 41's during 2006.



Pumper 30 was assigned a Mack MB in 1976 and very well could have recieved one of the seven 1987 E\-One Hurricane's or a E\-One Ford C model. I really can't remember what they had. After the explosion they ran #120 the 1971 Seagrave then they received a 1990

E\-One Protector.

There must have been more than seven of the 1987 E-Ones. I have a roster that was faxed to me by the Kansas City FD in February of 1994 and they still listed seven 1987 E-Ones on their roster then. They were assigned in 1994 to Pumpers 4, 19, 10, 23, 12, 2 and 9 in 1994 (dept #s 3204-3207 and 3209-3211 respectively). That would seem to leave 3208 as the E\-One that was destroyed (and it being at least the eighth 1987 E\-One).

Yes there must have been eight in 1987. Pumper 41 was 3208. So pumper 30 must have been in a Ford C or the Mack MB. Thanks for the info.



Pumper 16 and 33 each recieved in 1988 E\-One Hurricane (Federal Box cab) with 1000 gallon tanks, to work as the department pumper tankers.
