Ok Gents, I got out of work a bit early today, so on my way home, I thought "Hey I should stop in at that place and check out that ALF." So here ya go.......

The piece is FDNY Shop number AO8033. You can see in the pics that it was obviously assigned to 231, and possibly later as 235 (on the passenger side jump seat door below the logo.)

The truck is owned by Bernie Enterprises, the same guy who has the other junkyard.

This piece is amazingly intact. Look at the pics- you can see the lightbar is there, the single rotator over the rear canopy cover is there, the bars for the wagon cover are all there.....Due to high weeds and critters of the flying stinging variety, I couldn't get around back. I would recommend that if you want stuff off it, you should call Rusty at Bernie Enterprises, talk to him and if he agrees, come back when it is colder (flying insects of the stinging variety will be dead, the little douchebags!)
You beat me to it... I was planning to go take pictures this weekend, lol.... I hope that we are able to help get some parts.

No Problem. Anything for a fellow antique owner! Lemme know if/when yer coming down, if it's still warm maybe we'll barb-q on my deck after the "Parts Raid." You have to pass me to get there- I live 2 miles from exit 67 of I-78.

Take him to The SANDS ... maybe he can win some money to help restore the Engine. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

I have enacted a personal boycott against the new casino- I don't believe I would ever be able to sleep at night, knowing that I patronized a business that was built on the grounds of the flagship of the once great Bethelehem Steel empire- using Japanese steel. I'll drive to Atlantic City or up to the Poconos.

The Poconos is about 5 minutes from my in-laws. The NYC group will be passing my area as they head west on I-78... honk as you go by!

Well, here is an update. The places the Brothers above gave to me have no more of anything left. No fault but my own, for getting married, working like a dog and procrastinating leaves me without. C'est la vie.

However, Rusty at Bernie Enterprises did give me a place somewhere in upstate NY that might have a few Mack's and/or ALF's. I still get the Jekyll/Hyde from Larry O Taylor., so I basically stopped calling them. Though I may try one more time.

The Mack is home, but has severe rust. I am looking into the local Vocational school into possibly doing it. I was initially told that they wouldn't do it for liability, but a member of the local VW club (I like VW's too!) mentioned he had work done there. I may take a few courses there at night and maybe finally learn something.

Shame of it all is, I wish I could snap my fingers and have a ton of people over here to do it. It seems that what many see to be the definition of Brotherhood, the almighty F.D.N.Y., has turned it's back on many of the Brothers that responded on 9/11/01 (RIP), and are denying the families the use of the caisson rig (Marc can verify this). I was asked for one funeral if they could use the rig as a caisson, and I sadly said it wasn't able to. Many more will be passing on, and our top level management just puts their head in the sand wishing we all would.

Along with Marc, I went down to DC on a rally November 18th. I made many contacts on the way home in getting this rig done so it can be used as a caisson, and when the wounded warriors do come to town. So hopefully, one of these will pan out, along with the local SPAAMFAA chapter. I shudder to think that some will think I want it done just for my benefit, but unless I pay for it to be done, I wont be entering any judged contents at musters. Just need it looking good for a caisson

,

She runs good, hauls ass off the top line, but needs the compartments repaired. A good compounding and/or paint job after that, and she should be good to go.

Anyone has any more leads, let me know. I'll try not to procrastinate on them.

Stay safe, Brothers. And Merry Christmas..

I just saw the Lafrance not and hour and a half ago (the one I took pics of above) still in the same exact spot. I suggest giving Rusty a call, and ask him about the ALF at the yard down in Quakertown, just above Sellersville, NOT THE COOPERSBURG YARD.

Bernie Enterprises has TWO yards. MAKE SURE RUSTY KNOW THE ONE IN Q-TOWN, NOT COOPERSBURG! That Lafrance has been there for so long I dare say he might have forgotten the thing is there. But it is, TRUST ME!

No need to be sorry, Brother. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

But if Rusty still can't remember where it is, I'll buy you a few beers if you need to remind him. And Marc still wants to come for the ride, so we can make a day out of it.

How's your welding and bondo skills? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />

It was still there this morning when I came into work. I'm in for the field trip, let me know when! Like I said, if it's fairly warm, we'll have a "post parts removal" critique at my place!!!! And as for the welding, if someone knows how to set the voltage, I can wire-feed MIG pretty good....Bondo? No problem, I've even fiberglassed the shit out of the rear wheel well of a 1968 Hahn once....LOL

Will try to head down in mid April. Tougher to get away now that I'm married. Wife was a little upset that I bought a Checker cab off Ebay. I now have 3 projects, the Mack, the VW and the Checker. I bid on the Checker as a gag. Some gag, I was the only one who made a bid, but I did get it for $510. Shipping from Iowa is another $900. Still not a bad price.

Which makes it time for a 2nd 2nd job..lol.

The VW has to get a new engine in it. With gas projected to go to $3.50 (or more) per gallon this summer, getting my 1989 VW Jetta diesel back on the road is the priority. Wife will drive the 2009 Jetta diesel, I'll take the 89. Between her 1999 Suburban and my 2002 F-250, it will be cheaper to fill both VW's than either big truck. So this is my priority as of now, along with spring cleaning.

The CF still needs those parts. I also need the "Herculite" hose bed cover, as the original has shredded away from being outside all these years. Anyone have any idea where (or who) might make these? I have a pal who is a master metal fabricator but was very pricey. Finally got the guts to ask him, and he said while he can't do it for free (would be nice, but not my intention), he is going to save me a ton of money. Working on paint job next. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Thank God (said with all sincerity) I have not received calls from people asking me if my rig can be used as a caisson. Hopefully it will be done soon, so God Forbid we need it, it will be ready.

Will try Larry O. Taylor in Wysox again. VERY moody man.

Any other Checker cab fans out there???? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

For the cover...

Try an Canvas Dealer or awning (sp) place. There was one place in NJ I know that a company went to to get a cover made for an open rear Rescue Truck. The height was smaler but same idea. Not sure on price.

Though about it for I have a canvas man in Islip, the next town over. Was thinking Herculite was a special type of canvas, so wanted to see what was out there.

If you are coming down for the Spring Thaw at Allentown, we might be able to sneak in and look at the ALF if you want...It's only about 1/2 hour from where the show is.

Have to see. I would love to make Allentown, but I have my company dinner the night before in Manhattan. I haven't been to Allentown in 20 years.
