This is one of the Bells of Remembrance. These are recycled church bells that have found a new mission. They weigh in around 3500 pounds.
This is a plaque inside the church of St Francis of Assisi where Fr Mychal Judge was assigned as a Franciscan priest. Right across the street is Engine 1 Ladder24.
The bell at the downtown location is dedicated to the twenty-three NYPD and thirty-seven PAPD officers who were lost that day. These are the smaller plaques. Larger plaques at the front and rear list each of their names.
There's a similar bell commemorating all 343 FDNY members. That was outside St Francis but it was raining and too crowded to get pix.
This is the FDNY bell showing the plaque listing 343 names.
Behind it is the Bell of the Unforgotten dedicated to those who are known to have died that day but for whom no DNA match has been discovered among the bones of the dead.

FDNY reg. # SP9330. Started out as 58 Engine and ended as Reserve 505 that was quartered with 54 Engine. Got detailed to 58 one night in Feb. 2003 and caught a nice job while riding this rig. Also drove this rig once or twice when it was Reserve 505 at E-54's. This rig would get up and MOVE! Sorry to see it in such a sad state!

Correct, the shops took this rig after 19 had major problems with it and couldn't get the ladder out of the bed at a few fires. They gave 19 Truck the '01 Seagrave that was originally 40 Truck's. 40 Truck only had the RM for a short time when they received a new tiller.

The guy who owns this rig was a bit of a 9-11 scammer. He was a bouncer from Brooklyn who showed up at "The Pile" and started digging. He later became known as "ATV Mike". He would drive the little John Deere "Gator" around delivering tools. I remember him very well from several personal encounters. Now before I start to get berated for being insensitive to someone who "Just wanted to help out", let me explain the rest of this story. He eventually went on a nationwide tour, basically promoting himself and all that "HE" did after 9-11, he would wear FDNY uniforms and the FDNY Carhart overalls and jacket that were issued at "The Pile". He was eventually arrested by the NYC Fire Marshal's for impersonating an FDNY Fireman, and for having stolen FDNY equipment. He eventually faded off into the sunset, and I haven't seen this guy in about 5 years. He's since turned up with this retired FDNY Seagrave RM that he's purchased and, I guess, is trying to get his name out there again. Supposedly he now resides in upstate NY. He can be seen in the last pic with the beard, driving the old rearmount. Just be aware of this guy if anyone here comes across him.

I was wondering how long it would take for the story behind the story to be told. This guy was at a trade show in Massachusetts two years in a row, selling his book and shirt's from Engine 1 and Ladder 24. If I remember correctly their is some association between him and a member of Ladder Co. 20.

As a Smeal Electrician that puts truck together. There built with quality and are designed not to fail. But like all things electrical they do fail. There is nothing you can do about that. ITS LIFE

...Wasn't complaining about the product- just electronics in general, I kinda like the Smeals (just had one as a spare last week) btw,We have 3-Smeals on order.........
