Bakerton Fire Department

For those of you who have enjoyed following the apparatus roster at Bakerton, here is a current summary:



Engine 7 - 1983 Ford C/Darley as just posted

Tanker 7 - the 1976 Brockway as just posted

Tanker 7-1 - the 1981 GMC General/Heil tractor trailer 2000/9000 as just posted

Brush 7 - 1974 Dodge Power Wagon as just posted

Utility 7 - 1991 Chevrolet Suburban as just posted



In addition (not able to get photos)

Squad 7 - 1984 Ford F800/4-Guys 800/500 ex- Murrysville, PA painted lime and currently unmarked

Air 7 - 1987 GMC/Grumman - Chief Ferris provided photos

Ambuance 7 - 1993 Ford F350/E-One ex- Gainesville-Haymarket, VA (Prince William County)

Ambulance - a Ford F 4WD - year unknown. Not at the station. Bakerton will be removing the ambulance box and creating a brush truck. This ambulance also came from the Gainesville-Haymarket VFD.



Note: The Mack CF that Bakerton had (ex- Berlin, MD) was just recently sold on Ebay because of mechanical issues.

Mike, Glad it worked out sorry I couldn't meet you there. A few things, Gainsville VA donation 2 vehicles the AMB and the Utility ( not 3) althought we can always hope <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />







Also there are Gainesville District Volunteer Fire Department, not sure about the Haymarket part.



The other thing is the Other Amb was donated from Lake Jackson Fire Department in VA. This is the one we hope to make into a brush in the future.





Also if you could mention or keep ears open we are in bad need of a replacement for the 1976 brockway tanker. It is our bread and butter and has added transmission issues to the growing list of problems. Not sure how much long it will last. If anyone know of anything out there SAFE that might be avaliable for donation/loan/low, low cost we would be very interested.

I appreciate the information. You are correct about "Gainesville District" - some of their older apparatus used to be marked both Gainesville and Haymarket. Same department.



Just curious - was the ambulance from Lake Jackson their old Boat Support Unit (Ford F350/Wheeled Coach)? If it is, and you know the year of it, I would appreciate having that information.

MIke, it is the old boat support unit. It is a 1989 Ford 4x4 F350. I will try adn post when we are having our opening and anyone is more then welcome to stop by and see the station.

Here is the latest pic, all of the equipment but the supertanker is located in the station. We just finally got the septic installed and inspected and are hours away from having running water in the station.

Mike, I'm pretty sure that we (Gainesville District VFD) only provided two (2) units to Bakerton, the 1991 Chevrolet Suburban and the 1993 Ford F350 Ambulance. There was not a third unit unless they also acquired the 1989 F350 Ambulance that was also here, but we had already relinquished that unit to the Catlett VFD, but that unit was "NOT" a 4WD unit as stated above.



Hope this clears things up.

Mr Fox you are correct we got the 1st two but not the 1989. Your department also gave us some lockers that were outside and we may be back for some other EMS stuff when they clean out the other station. Thanks again.

Actually, looking back thru this thread the rig was used from summer 2007 through winter 2008. When I visited in April 2008, this rig and the X-Berlin,MD. Mack CF were not in service because of freeze damage (see post#46) the damage happened just before they were able to move the rigs inside.

I would say this company has made good use out of almost everything they've gotten and there has been a constant upgrade in equipment. Given the major upheavals in leadership, this company has somehow managed to survive. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tisktisk.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

A quick Bakerton update as I was able to drop by there yesterday while traveling home from Maryland. A special thanks to Chief Johnson who took my request to drop by quickly - he was getting married that afternoon! I think my visit may have helped keep his mind off of things.



As some have seen on other posts, Engine 7 was acquired last year from the Sterling VFD in Loudoun County, Virginia where it ran from Station 18.



It is a 1995 Spartan Gladiator/Saulsbury 1500/750 with serial number 295114.

Also newer to Bakerton is Air 7, a 1987 Grumman/Kurbmaster that was purchased from Loyalsock, PA.

A couple of final updates...



Tanker 7-1, the 1981 GMC General/1965 Heil 2000/9000 tractor trailer that came from Minetola, NJ was sold last year to a FD in Louisiana (unknown where).



Still running the 1976 Brockway/Ziss/4-Guys 750/3500 tanker. Bakerton hopes to get a grant to replace this.



The red 1974 Dodge Power Wagon (Dept of Forestry) is still in service. Bakerton acquired a 1989 Ford F350/Wheeled Coach ambulance from Lake Jackson, VA (ex- Boat Support) and have removed the ambulance box and are in the process of converting this into a brush truck. Work still remains.



A 1993 Ford F350/E-One ambulance acquired from Gainesville, Virginia will be converted into a rope rescue unit and become SERV 7. This gear is currently kept in Utility 7, a 1991 Chevrolet Suburban that was also acquired from Gainesville, VA. This Suburban runs as Utility 7. Once this change is made, Utility 7 will become an EMS chase vehicle.

They have the Rescue Engine they received from Middleway Co. 6 However I haven't gotten the chance to get out there and I can 't speak for others.

They have also acquired a Deuce and a half (I believe now painted a dark green color) with plans to convert to a brush truck.

I believe that project was not completed and the Deuce and a half will be the only brush replacing their current one.

Congratulations to the Bakerton Volunteer Fire Department of Harpers Ferry, WV on their order of a Pierce Tanker on a Freightliner chassis with a 500 GPM Pump, 2000 Gal. water, and swivel telescoping dump chute for side and rear dump capability. Here is the preliminary drawing.
