FMC (once the Food Machinery Corperation): They built food related machinery before getting into the fire apparatus and armored fighting vehicle buisness. Started out as the Bean Spray Pump Company (named after John Bean) making piston pumps. (Originally San Jose, CA).

as Howie mentioned a couple years ago on this thread.......its CUMMINS........NOT Cummings (someplace in Georgia)

Hello all, this is my first post. I have a bottle nozzle that is labeled American LaFrance Foamite Corporation. Does anyone have information on when/how Foamite became part of American LaFrance?

As mentioned above, the Foamite-Childs Corp. of Utica NY made fire extinguishers and a foamite system, along with fire trucks. They were purchased by American LaFrance in 1927. Source: "100 Years of American LaFrance" by Walter M. P. McCall.

Almonte Fire Trucks was originally located in Almonte, Ontario, prior to moving to a larger plant the next town over in Carleton Place. They are now known as Seagrave Canada.

IIRC, Pierce (fire side) bought the rights to the name 'Pierce Arrow' and then introduced its new line called the 'Arrow'. Back in the old time of around 1980.

Great Eastern, was just a name for Oren Appartus sold by Earny Day, I think, of New Jersey. Most Great Easterns were sold to Pa and NJ.

Alexis Fire Apparatus.



Gene Morris built his first two trucks while employed at Ashland Oil Company in Ashland, Kentucky. After six years with Ashland, he decided to use the experience he had gained to begin his own business. In 1945, Gene returned to his hometown of Alexis, Illinois, and opened a small welding and fabrication shop. He noticed the fire engines he repaired in his shop were poorly built and knew he could build a higher quality truck.



In 1947, Alexis Fire Equipment Company was born. The original facility employed four men and could accommodate only three to four units at a time. Gene discovered a market opportunity in rural Illinois and Iowa for his product. With dedication, pure hard work, and extensive traveling, Alexis Fire Equipment grew rapidly.

IIRC, it was Chessie Cummins,not Clessie.



Not a fan of the ads featuring 'Cummings' engines either. EBay can give ya a migraine with this error.

No, "Clessie" is correct. Clessie Lyle Cummins (December 27, 1888 - August 17, 1968) was the founder of the Cummins Engine Co.
