This was constructed with a rural land grant. It was built to only be a fire house as the grant stated but Police moved in shortly after the grant was obtained.

Does Nixa still have the Snorkel or did Ozark purchase it? I love Lambert's great food.
Stay Safe, Rick
Nixa sold the Snorkel to Billings Fire Protection District about 15 miles to the west/northwest. Ozark has a 1990 Pierce Arrow 85' Snorkel. I've got pictures of it posted here somewhere. Yeah...Lambert's does have good food, but they really don't seem to like the public servants around here.
Wichita, Kansas Mid Continent Airport (ICT) Over a year ago I was asked to get a photo of the Safety Station at ICT Wichita, Kansas. The current Safety Building was constructed some time in the 1970's or 1980's. They added two bays to the right one is the drive through shown at a later date after opening.
Wichita Aiport Police Fire Rescue is a public safety divison of the City of Wichita seperate from the Fire and Police Departments. They have seven on duty and work 24/48 rotations. All members serve in the capacity of Fire Police and EMS non transport.
Front Public Side, It is two story with no fire pole
Rear side Airport, far left bays were added later.
They run one Oshgosh Striker roof turrent, one Oshgosh T-1500, Oshgosh Striker Snozzle, one Ford F-Super Duty Walters Rescue Truck.
The Wichita Fire Department provides structural fire response and ground fire response for any area outside the flight deck. The Airport Safety Department does not operate a structural engine. Both departments respond to EMS on the grounds and in aircraft.
SCFD FH 32 Fire Pole in lobby. SCFD never operated a two story fire house. However the SCFD Fire Chief is retired from Wichita Fire Department that had many two story fire house's. So when the new FH32 was built he requested a fake brass pole.

"Safety officers were on sleeping duty", WOW! wish my station had such a duty, LMAO.
Yeah I know. The Safety Officers at MCI Wichita work 24-48. Here is the break down 8 hours sleep fire house, 8 hours terminal TSA duty, 8 hours patrol. The Captain and Lt are always assigned to the fire house either as dispatch or fire engines. Everyone is awake during the first 8 hours of the shift and then the sleep rotation starts. It is an odd set up. The Airport Public Safety is a city department and many of the WFD personel question why the city has never made the Airport part of the fire department and give WPD the other half. It would deffiently make sense. WFD has to respond in tandem with Public Safety to any emergency in the airport buildings. So for any EMS you get Airport Safety, WFD, and Sedgwick County EMS.

Nice shots Rick. Is KCKFD Sta 10 located a few blocks from the KS/MO border?
Thanks, Yes KCK 10's is off Rainbow Blvd on a side street between Southwest Blvd and 34th Street where KU Hospital is. The are about a mile at most west of the state line. That area of KCK the Rosedale section is somewhat an island wedge from the rest of the city. Pre-1989 the area had Pumper 12 at 12's, Pumper 10, and Truck 10 at old 10's. 1989-1995 that wedge was protected by Pumper 12 at old 12's and Quint 10 at old 10's. In 1995 KCK received federal block grant funding to close Fire House 10 and 12 and consolidate them in a new modern Fire House. They chose to call the new Fire House 10's. Do more with less is the name of the game
We thought for sure when Quint 10's 1989 Stuphen 75ft was replaced in 2002 that a dry 100ft Truck would return but in classic KCK fashion a E\-One Hurricane extended cab 75ft Quint showed up. Although they are isolated from the rest of KCK making the Quint an positive thing if Pumper 10 is out. Pumper 7 Truck 7 and either Pumper 3 or 1 are normally on the alarm card for 10's district.
NOTE: Old number 12 is at 39th and Rainbow was built at the same time as 11's on State Ave in 1924. These were would be the last fire house's KCK would built for the next forty years until 14's at Klamm Park. The interesting thing is 12's was the first single story fire house in KCK. It was designed to fit in with the bungalow houses of the area. However 11's was built as a two story with brass poles. Both 11 and 12 were two bays and in the 1970's the bays were made into one large bay door.
Old 10's is at Southwest Blvd and Mission Road and pre 1921 was the the City of Rosedale city hall and Fire House 1. In 1921 the career Rosedale Fire Department was annexed into KCK and became 10's.
