NYPD Marching Band
Saw these guys on the parade on Thanksgiving Day. The only thing was they had maybe 15 seconds of air time then NBC cut away to a frigging commerical!!!!!!!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/machinegun.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

We got disgusted and changed over to the Chicago parade. They actually showed the bands! Their microphone placement left a bit to be desired, as the sound of the bands wasn't great, but at least the coverage was all about the parade.

is this a collector owned vehicle-surely its not still in service?
It might be owned by the department. This photo was taken at the NYPD Museuem on Old Slip in Manhattan.
While visitng the Midtown area yesterday I got two suprises. 1) The NYPD uses Rumbler sirens (right on fifth avenue, really woke up the unprepared shoppers) and 2) the NYPD must be testing Nissan Altimas since they had atleast two all decked out. Will post a photo later today. Any further insight into them using these for patrol?

The Altimas are being tested out in the precincts, much like the Dodge Chargers were tested a while back. Personally, I do not think they will pass, the charger was considered too small, these are even smaller.
Thanks Grump, after reading the link it really saddens me (even if I do realize its Nissan propaganda) that the term "flagship" is used for describing NYC's future cruisers. From what the officers in the altima I saw said its not exactly comfortable, usable, or suited for the taller of NY's Finest.

unmarked nypd sprinter maybe a detective unit
In a very quiet day tour I was surfing the different command post & police specialty vehicle mfgs page I came up with the delivery stats on these Farber Speciality Vehicles Five (5) of these Sprinter/FSV were delivered and are Farber model L-23 In addition two (2) larger LJ-25 units one is on a Chevy C5500 chassis and has NYPD number 3517 and is assigned to ESU as their mobile CP. The other is on a Ford chassis and looks similar to the Chevy style. Enjoy the factoid!
Found a weird nypd "bread truck" looking vehicle in times square- Will post picture tomorrow night... Any thoughts?

Paddy Wagon perhaps
Check post 590. I got a pic of a NYPD command post that was an old delivery truck. Might be the same. |
