Ford C Series Chassis Fire Apparatus
#61
St. Petersberg operated this 1969 Ford C/StPFD shops built light & power unit that was designated as Light Wagon 9. These units at one time ran with the StPFD Ladder Trucks.

St. Petersberg also used a few Ford C chassis as pumpers in the early 80s. Here is Squad 5 operating with a 1981 Ford C/E One 1250/750 pumper when the department was lime yellow.

By 1983 St. Pete had switched back to red fire apparatus and Engine 4's new rig was this 1983 Ford C/E One 1250/500 pumper- in red color.

Quote:Just a year later, in 1985, the same station was Hillsborough County Station 14 and operateing as HCFD Engine 141 was this 1984 Ford C/unknown 1000/750. Georgia Dave will probably recognize the manufavturers emblem between the cab windows.

Gee, a logo in the shape of the State of Indiana...........

Thanks to all for this thread. Being a kid in the '70's and a buff even in my earliest years, I was always disappointed that my town had "boring ol'" Ford C-General Safety rigs for its fleet, and we didn't have cool Crowns and WLF's like I saw on 'Emergency!'

But, now as the C's are disappearing fast, I'm getting nostalgic for what was once America's most ubiquitous fire chassis.

Post away!

Here's my new favorite of the Ford/C fire trucks. This is my 1975 Ford/C Young 1000gpm 500gal. First owned by the Pine Hill fire company, Cheektowaga, NY (Engine 2), then by the Village of Silver Creek, NY (Engine 171), then I bought it and restored it back to a Pine Hill pumper.

San Francisco operated many Ford C specialized pieces. There were two rescue squads on the Ford C chassis. Here is a photo I took of the 1982 Ford C/Welch unit running as Squad 2 out of Station 38 in 1990.

San Francisco also operated at least two "Service" Units or Service Squads on the Ford C chassis. Here is Service 1 operating at a 2nd Alarm fire in 1989 not far from SFFD Station 7. I'm not sure if the unit was fabricated in the SFFD shops or not. Over the years the SFFD re-mounted many back ends of its specialized units on newer chassis. I'm not sure if that is the case with Service 1 or not.

Here is the other side of the same SFFD Service 1 at a 3rd alarm fire in March of 1990 in Station 15's first due area.
