Why does the siren have a cover over the speaker? I noticed this alot on FDNY Macks. The ALF's had a triangle in the center. Just interested.

Thanks Stay Safe,

There was a time, not so long ago, when the "citizens" of certain inner-city neighborhoods would unscrew the speaker cones...the metal grills over the speaker, whether a triangle or disc, solved this problem.

No, it is a company specific thing. Some of the companies personalize their rigs, like adding an extra stripe or adding gold leaf lettering. Check out Mike Martinelli's site, FDNYtrucks.com and you can see some of the other rigs.

McDermott lightbars. The two arms extend vetically to put lights high above the vehicle for advanced warning.

The Archer has been gone for years. It would be the Alfred Smith (Spare Boat) and the Kevin C Kane
