5 Homes Burn In Aurora, CO 3rd Alarm 6/11/13

On Tuesday afternoon during a record setting high temperature day (103 degrees) and 20 mph winds... Aurora Firefighters were dispatched to a fence fire threatening a structure at 1735 South Pagosa Way.  First due Engine 9 sized up two homes fully involved with exposure problems and transmitted a 2nd Alarm. 

 

This is a patio home community with poor access and narrow walkways.  The buildings in Red were a total loss, the orange sustained heavy damage.

   

 

These first shots were taken by fellow photographer Dave Radomski from the west side of the incident, he arrived a little before I did.

This is about the same I arrived and came in from the other side of the complex, a 3rd Alarm also transmitted about this time.

One of my first shots from the opposite side, the home closest to the camera had fire on both floors and in the attic.  That structure is where the conflagration stopped.

Yes, it is a patio home community... the homes are very close together.  Here's another cool Bronto photo, the lesson here is to get everything you need out of the cab before the outriggers are set!

We, (east coast & former east coast) have never heard the term "patio home". What is it?

I guess its what we call a slab house. Pour slab of concrete then build on top of that. Most houses in this type of a subdivision look the same. Just my 2 cents

I think our region uses the term as slang for generally what others may call a condo complex.  What we call a patio home is either stand a lone home built very close to the neighbors or several individual units that might be attached.  They generally each have a small paito or strip of grass within their ownership, but the rest of the community is managed by an HOA.  It's also common that the resident owns their walls and ceiling but the roof is shared ownership by all of the residents in that structure... thus they or the HOA have to pay for roof repairs or upgrades collectively.
