Chicago 2-11 Alarm 49th & Halsted Feb 4, 2013
#1
This was at 49th & Halsted, last night. Huge industrial

complex...must have been a rubbish or contents fire..not much left to

see when I arrived. They did set up a 2nd RIT due to the size and

condition of the building. Also used the chopper for roof recon. The MVU

was set up and operated...seemed like little effect from my outside

view. I also noticed some usage of the cart mounted PPV units as well. 2

sets of 2 engines in line were used to get water on the fire..each pair

from a different hydrant. Snowy conditions made for some spotty

photos..but the available light stuff at 5000 iso really surprised me

Although I like clean and polished apparatus, there is definitely something appealing about a hard-working, dirty rig.  That means they are taking care of business, i.e. fighting fire.  I have all the respect in the world for the Bubbas up north in the snow.
