New Creek VFD 2014 so far
#1
Thought I'd share a few pics of the start of the new year for New Creek. Although the majority of our incidents are EMS, we have caught a few serious calls.

First pic is of a fatal accident along Rt 93

Next - overturned box truck on Rt 93 - This time in Grant County - an area that we used to provide first due coverage to, but due to bullshit county line rules, we now are 2nd due to (regardless of our 8-10 mile closer presence)...restricted to what our mutual aid to that side wants us to respond

Good series of images...good to see what the guys are doing up your way.

Was the first-due area changed because the other department thought you were "stealing" their calls?

I honestly don't know how it came about. We just received notice from our 911 that Jan 1 of 2013 we would no longer be alerted past the county line. After several meetings with that dept, county commission meetings, a state fire marshal review and report (which was ignored) and state fire commission meetings...they all buried their heads and left it at the county line. 50 years of running it first due, ISO maps, box cards, fire and EMS reports from the 60's, time, safety and distance studies all proved it should be our area. We had always dual alerted them with us, due to there being 23 miles between stations. We're back to being alerted as a dual alert, but we have to respond what they dictate, which doesn't always make sense. We cannot respond our tower for flue fires, as an example.

That's a shame ... I hate seeing politics get in the way of providing what's best for the citizens.  Has this been "public" yet?

Oh yeah, we had it published in both newspapers down our way, and the one in grant. The community was up in arms over it. Nearly the entire population signed a petition to keep us as 1st due, some went to the county meetings and they also had a public meeting with the fire marshals office.

You said it right - "politics"
