Is FS209 the WHOLE building? or is there offices/appartments going in above it?

Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 10-07-2008

There are a hundered some affordable housing units included above the station. I believe the station will be a 4 bay facility with a 4 story residential component which will include 44 long-term affordable housing units and 20 appartments for city workers to include first responders and teachers. First floor will have additional community space and some retail.

It is a very unique private public partnership. The developer gets a development approved, the city gets more affordable housing, and a brand new fire station which they desperatly need. It is a win-win.

Thats a pretty awsome idea. I wonder if it is an idea that will catch on through out the area.

Alexandria has a tr/tr ladder on order from Pierce. Jerry's authoritative Virginia Fire News filled in a few holes in my knowledge when it arrived in the mail. Unfortunatly I have not had time to read it until just now. The tiller is on an Arrow XT chassis. Looks like I have to play my next DC trip around an Alexandria delivery.

Is there a magazine/newspaper that Virginia Fire news makes? If so how do you get it?

Thanks

How many issues are there in a year? How long is the subscription for (One Year, Two Year?)

Thanks

The Virginia Fire News is a bi-monthly publication. The $18 is for a one year, six issue, subscription. We cover apparatus, working incidents, fire related news, and department profiles. I'm sorry for the confusion. The website that adopted our name unfortunately does that. However, I get credit lots of the time for having a nice website!!!

I give Jerry credit for having the best magazine of its type. The attention and devotion that Jerry and his writers put in are first rate! If you are interested at all in any part of VA fire apparatus you need to subscribe.

I checked with a dealer one time about a upcoming delivery and he pulled out the VFN and looked it up! Funny and true but it is a great magazine!

FB 201 the Vigilant is back in service and responding to calls on the Potomac. The Departments Marine Operations team was part of a three month safety standdown.

There are a few links to information and video.

Here is Dave Statter's link with some videos on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpHQswBxHZw that should take you to footage shot on the Vigilant.

and

Here is a link to Dave's site....STATter911.com

Dave is a reporter for one of the local TV stations in DC and does a fantastic job. He first reported on the safety standdown of the Vigilant. The most recent VFN said May. I have not heard anything different. I am trying to see if I can get any better information.

So far my trip to NoVA has been a wash out........lots and lots of rain since I arrived. There was enough possibility of sun today that I took the camera with me on my travels for the day. The only shots I got a chance to get were rigs I have shot many times before but they are two of my favorite rigs, so.......here you go.
