Those are definitely factory photos, I've stood in that parking lot many times! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Jerry posted a question over in the Virginia Misc section and I thought I would cut and paste it over here to the AFD thread. To follow are a few shots of the Seagraves that Jerry is talking about that I have never posted. The pictures to follow were taken at the AFD shops in October of 2008 on a day when both Seagraves were at the stop and set up to opperate as spares for Truck 203 and Truck 208, you will see that they have the magnetic numbers on the rigs. I am not sure if these shots were after both rigs had been dropped off or just prior to them being picked up.

QUOTE (firemag @ Aug 30 2009, 08:09 )

Does anyone know the status of Alexandria's two white/lime 1986 Seagraves tractor drawn ladders? I know one was up for auction, but I'm not sure which one, or if the other one is gone, for sale, or still in reserve.

Thanks - Jerry

I haven't heard anything new Jerry. I will be out in October for my two weeks in the fall. I will check for you.

Some AFD news:

The first of the two Seagraves, the old Truck 203 is sold and gone. The second, old Truck 205/204 will be sold once the current Truck 208 the LTI TR/TR is replaced by the new Arrow XT TR/TR. They have started training on the new Pierce this week. AFD is ordering all new equipment for the new truck so that when the current Truck 208 goes into reserve status it goes into reserve as a turn key rig. Interesting tidbit, the current LTI TR/TR is a long sucker and only fits in Station 208. It won't fit in either Station 203 or 204. Not sure what they will do with it when it runs as a reserve from those stations.

Other news:

The new Station 209 was dedicated on Saturday in the rain and they have started moving stuff into the station. Engine 202 and the Hazmat Units will start running live from Station 209 and I believe become Engine 209 and Hazmat 209 on or around November 1st.

Planning is progressing on Station 210 down in the Eisenhower Valley.

They are still waiting to hear about stimulus money to reconstruct Station 203. A rumor is they could move Engine 203 to Station 202, which will only be housing Medic 202 when Station 209 opens, during any construction.

No news on a new Engine yet, though I heard that an Engine committee is formed so possibly ordered sometime next year.

The reserve apparatus is now being stored inside!!!! They have rented a building off of Jefferson Davis Highway near the new Station 209 to store the apparatus that had to be moved from the Fire Dept Shop when the storage lot there was torn up to house the new PD HQ.

I have not yet been able to shoot the new Truck but I am trying to arrange that for tomorrow. I will post shots of what I get and the other rigs I am able to shoot once I get back to MN.

Dave, where is Alexandria Keeping the Mass Care Support Unit (06 Freightliner/Hackney COG Thing)? I thought it was at Sta. 202?

Tim, when they first got it, they had it stored outside at Station 202, however, they then moved it down to the FD shops on Wheeler Rd. That is where I saw and shot it the last two years in a row. I am uncertain as to its whereabouts but it is not at Station 202 right now. When they move the Hazmat rigs to the new Station 209 that will free up some storage space at Station 202 but now that they have that rented space over off Route 1, not sure what is going to be parked where. I am hoping that by next spring when I am back everything has settled out so I can do a swing by each of the stations and get a good listing of just where everything is. I couldn't tell you where the Foam trailer is anymore....last I saw it was at Station 202 but it wasn't there, or it was well hidden, the other day.

Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 10-20-2009

Found the elusive new Truck 208 today. I spent half the day finding where B shift was doing their delivery training. Lots more shots to come once I get back to MN.

Just a preview....

Tim

With the opening of Station 209 there has been some movement around in Alexandria as of late. The COG MCSU has been moved to Station 202 and is there with Medic 202 and the Shift Safety Officer has been moved to Station 202, I think they were at 205 until the move.

Engine 202 and the Hazmat units have been moved to Station 209. So Engine 202 is now Engine 209, the Foam Trailer is now Foam Trailer and Hasmat 202 is now Hazmat 209. The Hazmat Support Unit is now, I believe called Support 209, and the new tow vehicle for the Foam Trailer is Hazmat 259. there is also a new vehicle Spill Response 209, I have pictures of hit that I have to find and will post. It is a large GMC deliery truck type vehicle.

I was in DC a few weekends ago and as of then they had not renumbered the rear of Engine 209 yet, it still says Engine 202.

So if they moved E202 and HM202 to E209 and HM209, are there no longer suppression companies at 2's?

Thanks in advance.

No supression units, only medic and staff at 202, and reserve apparatus storage.

Radio Reference has deployed several new online scanners in the DC area. One of the scanners is streaming Alexandria Fire/EMS and PD. Here is the link..... http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?feedId=2456

Of course I am pleased as punch!

They also have a feed for MWAA so you can listen to Dulles and National airports, a FFX County public safety feed, and a feed for Arlington Fire (only fire).

For those of you that are interested in the Northern VA area departments.
