There is a small airport located next to the Maple station. Department members took an old military trailer and added a 270 gallon foam tank to be used when needed.

Tanker 438 is the other fire truck assigned to Maple. I was told they do not have plans to repaint this truck since it has some body rust occuring and will probably be replaced in the future. This is another truck with earlier Virginia ties - this one previously served in Chesapeake, VA.

To avoid the beach traffic, we took some back roads from the Maple Station to get to the main station in Sligo, where another black over red repaint was running.

Last truck from Crawford Township is one that they just received and plan on repainting to black over red in the near future.

Originally running in Chesapeake, Virginia, this foam unit was donated to the Knotts Island, NC Fire Department, also in Currituck County. I was told Knotts Island also received another donated engine from Chesapeake - anyone have info on that?

Anyways, Knotts Island and Crawford TWP worked out a deal where Knotts Island gave this engine to Crawford as a "permanent loan". In return, a utility type of vehicle was given to Knotts Island from Crawford Township.

Crawford is looking to get funds from the local airport to purchase equipment for the truck and the plans are to repaint it to black over red. It will probably be assigned to the Maple Station since the airport is next to the station.

Another one for next year.

Mike;

This is Ex-Foam-12 from Chesapeake. The other truck that Knotts Island got is Chesapeake Ex-Tanker-7, 1987 White/Volvo.

Dare County EMS Unit 263 and Medic 22 in Manteo.

Dare Med Flight stationed at the Dare County Airport in Manteo. This is a EMS configured MMB BK117 helicopter. I don't remember the year. They are looking into replacing this unit in several years. It is staffed daily by 1 Pilot and 1 Flight Paramedic at the hangar, and the 2nd tech is on Medic 21 in Manteo normally.

The inside, not very big.

Not the best picture, the car is a Ford Crown Vic, driven by the Lieutenant at Station 2 in Manteo when they are not on a truck. In the background a M.C.I. Trailor, have no info on it.

The first helicopter utilized by Dare County crashed in 1989 I believe, killing both personnel on board. Here is the memorial.

The hangar is named after the personnel involeved, here is the sign along the road side.

A somewhat new unit for the Colington Fire Department, station 15. Last year, they recieved a grant for Amkus Rescu Equipment. Prior to that, all extrication required the assistance of the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department. Colington in looking into purchasing an aerial unit. Until then the rescue tools were placed on this trailor. This unit previously served as a transport unit for rehab. They have recieved a retired Dare County EMS unit to serve as a Rehab unit. I will have pictures of that in a few weeks.

Mike, you're making it hard for me to know it'll be almost 8 more months before I get to go back to the Outer Banks! Oh well, you've given me plenty to look forward to, and plenty of new photos to add to my hard drive! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Thumbsup' />

This is not owned by the Nags Head fire department but it is kept at Station 21. I have no information on this truck except that it is an old Navy truck. I am posting it because if you have spent anytime in the OBX area, you have probably noticed that each department and town/city has old military trucks that they use in times of storms and flooding. If you have gone through this OBX thread, I have posted a variety of these trucks, and some of them have had a radio designation of "Storm".

I think we will slowly see these old Kaiser units go away and be replaced with something similar to what Nags Head has.

Mike,

absolutely great photos. The photo of the large tanker at the beach is awesome.

The Nags Head old military truck looks very much like an ex-German Army Mercedes-Benz 1017 4x4. I did not know, that the US Navy also had these trucks.

Mike: As usual, great set of photos.

Here is an live update from the Outer Banks that I'm sure Mike will be interested in, and some of you may be also. Nags Head FD will receive a new KME Predator next month. It will seat six, have a light tower and generator. It will be a 1500/750 with a FoamPro 2002 system. Unsure on the foam cell. It will replace the beautiful old Seagrave (Yeah, you can't kill'em) which will be sent to either Stumpy Point or Manns Harbor. I'm working on that one. Maybe I'll stay here until it arrives and post photos. No reason to go home!!!!!!

If you are checking this thread, I will have some station shots for you when (and if) I go home. Great weather, and since Mike and I have all the appartus, I've started on the stations.
