I have always found the staff (both volunteer and career) to be extremely nice and accomodating when I have visited.

In 2000, when I dropped by to photograph their new KME, the on-duty crew took the KME up to the Wright Brothers Memorial for photos. Unfortunately, it was quite crowed that day and were were not able to do anything with with the memorial in the background.

At one visit to Kill Devil Hills, one of their ocean rescue units was out on the beach. The station crew radioed the unit and we met them on the beach for this photo.

I should have included Colington Station 15 after Kitty Hawk. Originally formed as a sub-station of the Kitty Hawk VFD in 1971, Colington received it own charter in 1981 and is currently Station 15 in Dare County.

It is located several miles from Kill Devil Hills and is a smaller fishing village.

Lots of crabbing from Colington - it is only fitting that some of the apparatus have the Colington blue crab.

This pumper is no longer in service at Colington. It was a 1973 Ford/Atlas 500/1300.

The information I have was that this Ford later served at Stumpy Point, NC, also in Dare County.

Nags Head is probably the best known Outer Banks FD because of the many visitors that come to this part of OBX every year.

The FD is a combination career and volunteer FD. Their main station sits right off Highway 158, as does their smaller sub-station. A third station opened in late 2005/early 2006 and protects the many beach homes along Highway 12.

Nags Head was chartered in 1961.

Let's start at Nags Head with some units no longer in service.

I wish I had some more information on this ALF. It is my understanding is that Nags Head obtained this ALF from Annapolis, Maryland.

1963 ALF 900 1000/500.

I have no other information on Nags Head Rescue 16 - a Ford/Emergency One.

Forgot to mention that the ALF in the previous post is from Mike Sanders collection. Same with this Ford/E-1.
