Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 09-30-2007
Speaking of the old NOVA numbers 5 was Alex 6 Was the military 7 was Arlington Can anyone remember the rest?
Fairfax County/Fairfax City were 1-49 Alexandria 50 series Military 60 series Arlington 70 series I think WMAA was also included in the 60 series except for the ARFF units which were numbered differently I think in the 300 series. I also seem to remember that stations in Loudoun and Prince Williams County close to Fairfax County were given 80 series numbers to identify when responding with Fairfax County. I vaguely remember that PG County MD in their numbering system assigned numbers to the VA stations in Alexandria and Fairfax County that often responded on the Wilson Bridge. Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 09-30-2007 You may wonder why the airports (Dulles and National) were included in the Military (Federal) NOVA series of 60 units. It is because Dulles and National Airport were run by the Federal Government (Federal Aviation Administration) up until 1987 when an act of Congress, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Act of 1986, Title VI of Public Law 99-500, transfered the airports to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority a public agency created by the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The lease the MWAA signed with the federal government runs 50 years. Alexandria, VA Fire Department - Guest - 09-30-2007 Here is the volunteer van. Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 09-30-2007 I was looking through some of my photos and something caught my eye that I had not noticed before. On Engine 202 the ladder rack is one of the drop down type ladder lowering devices. I will post a picture of the rear of the rig and then a cropped picture showing the ladder lowering device and the ladder. Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 09-30-2007 Here you can see the rear of Engine 202 and the ladder rack set up on the officer side. Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 10-26-2007 I am now having to do my penance for having said out loud before that I really didn’t have a need to track Pierce job numbers……so I am asking for assistance. I love to keep the AFD pics coming. I think it is assigned to the training unit. AFD has a number of trailers that it can assist in towing to incidents if they are needed. I will attempt to get a little more information when I can. Alexandria, VA Fire Department - davemcclung - 11-21-2007 I was doing some research today and was using Alexandria's 2008 approved capital budget as a comparison to my City's budget. When I was looking at Alexandria's I noticed something I had not noticed before. There is a 141% increase in their capital goods outlay ($892,200). The budget explaination of change says the change is due to replacing a ladder truck and ambulance in 2008. Sounds like the often mentioned replacement for Truck 208 is in next years budget. I will try to track down additional information prior to or after my next trip early next year. |
