I think 39 is the only place it can be stored. I don't think it will fit at 18; 39 is TR so they can maintain and train with it and it's a straight shot down Rt 7 into Tyson's for the Tunnel Box Alarm!

What exactly is a tunnel rescue equipped with?

Tunnel Rescue? So 439s area has no tunnels that I know of. I thought the only tunnel in Fairfax County were the one being built for Metro in 239 area and Dullues has their own tunnel rescue unit for the people mover at the airport..... So for those who know more than me where are the tunnels located? dave
Two that I know of are the Huntington Metro station, both tracks have tunnels at the end of the line and there is a tunnel under Rt29 that connects the 2 Vulcan quarries in Centreville. Oh and one more that I know of is a very short one under the W&OD just west of Vienna.
So I must ask if their are only those few short tunnels why a tunnel rescue unit for Fairfax County?

The name Penn Daw was taken from the names' of the owners of a hotel at US-1 and Kings Hwy., Cooper Dawson and E. Pennell. Towns and independent cities in Virginia are separate political entities that do not reside in the their surrounding counties. Vienna, Herndon, and Clifton stations are staffed by Fairfax County FF's. Clifton is the only town that does not have its own Police Dept.
I love the name Pohick. Is that as in poor hick? As in "That po' hick couldn't afford no Pierce fire truck, he had to buy him an E\-One." J
Pohick because it was one block of Pohick before they built the Fairfax County Parkway in front of the Station 435.

I'll chat up the TR techs from 18 to figure out what the tunnel rescue support unit will carry. Give me a few days, I took a day of annual leave and tacked it on to this four day break giving me six days off. As a rule, unless pressing/urgent or mandatory OT is involved, I don't do FD stuff on my days off (anymore). I believe though it is geared for WMATA's Metro tunnel construction that has already started in Tyson's.

Look how many holes are getting dug, a collapse/tunnel rescue unit comes in handy, and it can be used as a regional asset, there are one or two tunnels in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Tunnel unit will mainly have 20 or so biopacks (rebreathers), a freezer for components of the biopack, and other various tools to allow the packs to be reset for service once used. Current configuration is on one of the old pod units.
Man, I though I was the only fireman that thought this way! But I do wack out on hear off duty!
According to a source at another board who said he is working on the unit it will be a Technical Rescue Unit assigned to 439. There is currently nothing on the unit as it has just finished being lettered.

I watched TWD and here to see where the tech rescue versus tunnel rescue debate would surface first. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I went out shooting in FFX County with Tim last Friday. Had horrible luck finding the rigs we wanted and then while at 438's I had a "photographic emergency" with my Tamron lense so that was pretty much the end of the day. There were a few items I will post. First is Engine 404 on the ramp in the shade at the station. Couldn't convince them to take it kitty corner across the street but I still shot it.
I jotted down the job number somewhere but now can't find it, will add it when I find it.

We had started the day at Station 430 by where I stay when in DC. Both of us wanted the Command Post and that is a midday or afternoon shoot so we first went out to Station 439 to shoot their new Velocity engine. They were out, so that is when we headed to Station 404. We next headed to Station 425 and while there found Tower 401 backing in....at that point we found out there was a multi company drill going on in the 1st Battalion that day. Things were not looking up. However while there I did shoot Tower 401, because I do not pass up a Pierce, and we also shot Engine 425 which they were nice enough to position on the ramp in the sun for us.
Tower 401 filling Station 425....

I am using a different program to resize the pictures, let me know if aren't coming through clear and crisp.
Here is Engine 425, job number yes, I have it somewhere, will post it when/if I find it. You will see that I found a solution later for the job number issue......

Well from Station 425 the successs rate went even further south of the border..... No engine at 431, no new Velocity at 415, they were out, so we headed to 438, and found one of the stars of the day......the Mobile Command that had been at 440. Now if I heard correctly.....the unit that was at 440 was moved to 430 the unit at 430 instead of going back to 430 is now at 438. So lettered for Mobile Command Post 438 is....

And now it is time for me to run to dinner with friends......but ask yourself.....did Engine 438 come back.....was his lense which went bonkers while shooting the truck able to be used?????? Find out in a few hours......

Unable to adjust the zoom, I was stuck with the zoom I had when my lense broke. (Lucky for me Penn Camera was having a sale on Tamron lenses so now I have two lenses, well as soon as I get the other back from repair at Tamron.)
While I was taking a few shots of the Truck, Engine 438 returned. Engine 438 2010 Pierce Velocity

After 438 we went back passed 415 and still no Engine, so off to Station 421 and again, no one was home....so seeing a pattern we head back to Station 430 to call it a day but before the day was over we shot two other vehicles.
