For those keeping track of this stuff...the Hazmat Support Unit (2002 Spartan/SVI) is the rig that was replaced by the new Velocity. The HazMat Unit (2003 Spartan/Marion) is still front line. The old support unit is now in reserve status, but still kept at FS40.

I know its kind of specific, but does anyone have pictures showing the interior of the PODs and how they are set up? And what PODs (trench, collapse, command, foam, etc.) are in use in Fairfax County?

We now have confirmation, Thanks to Fire & EMS Virginia, that Engine 411, and 430 will betting the new velocities, and that Truck 436 will get the new tower. It says in the article though, that the old Truck 436 will go to reserve, and not transfer to 424.

If Jerry says it is so, then it is so....

I may be a bit biased for my love of Northern VA rigs but I don't know a regional/state/local fire service publication that is better than the old Virginia Fire News/new Fire & EMS Virginia.



Those of us who have lived in VA and who no longer live in VA but follow deliveries would be lost without Jerry and his FIRST class publication.

If The TRSU pod at 418 doesn't carry all the technical rope rescue gear where is that stuff carried? i.e. stuff need for rope systems, repelling etc. Is that stuff carried on the rescue companies?



I know that the Boat Support unit at 412 has some rope stuff assigned to it......

TRSU currently at 18 carries the heavy tools and power units that won't fit on the Rescue. There is also some lumber for shoring. The TR Pod is also kept at 18, loaded on the IH POD transporter, loaded w/lumber for shoring and other TRSU needs. To the best of my knowledge, all rope "software and hardware" is on the 4 TR Rescue companies w/R439 carrying a greater rope complement than the others since they are first-due TR rescue at Great Falls Park.

Interesting comment Shoop. I was thinking nearly the same thing. And I am not a fan of Quantums. I would have preferred them to spec an Arrow XT to show that Arrow XT will work in the county. If it can work in Alexandria and Arlington and the airports it can work in Ffx County.

Just me thinking here but are they going to try and put that where the old foam unit was at 26? It seems like it be to long? and possible as wide if not wider? But in either case that thing is freaking awesome looking and I can't wait to see it!

I can tell you, the lack of room for the officer in the XT versus the Velocity and the Quantum is VERY noticeable. The XT is the last remaining 96" wide cab that Pierce makes, and the loss of those couple of inches make a lot of difference, especially when the officer's trying to don an airpack.



Just my humble opinion after weighing the good and the bad of all of the Pierce cabs.

Taylor I can tell you my humble opinion Pierce really has nothing to offer in a tradtional looking cab with room for the 2010 engines unless its a Saber <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />. Hopefully they can bring back a Dash like cab on day.
