Not too much later that same 8/25/06 came another southbound stack train, this one led by CSX #8478.

While this isn't a bad shot I should have stopped about 5 feet farther back up the walkway than I did. That's where my buddy took his shot and his doesn't look like the bottom of the locomotive is cut off. Still and all, I do like this shot of the CSX #396 leading a TOFC train southbound just past the Bear Mountain Bridge on the morning of 12/7/06.

A little later that same morning, 12/7/06, we moved to a different location and I caught the CSX #633 leading a northbound TOFC train as it was coming off the north trestle from Iona Island, NY. The sun dipped behind the clouds just as the train came into my viewfinder and I thought it was a lost shot. I'm so glad I didn't delete it from the disc right then and there!

PC 60079, was built by the Russell Snow Plow Company of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania, for the New York Central System in November, 1948. It weighs 89,000 lbs. I found that by googling Russell Snowplow company.

Actually the morning of 12/7/06 started out around 5am when we got shots of NJT during the morning rush. We're in HoHoKus, NJ and this is an eastbound train from Port Jervis, NY passing us at 8:28 AM. For those not familiar with commuter train operation the train is indeed coming toward the photographer. The end car has engineer controls and is known as a cab car. Commands are sent via electrical jumper cables back to the locomotive. This is another of those shots I thought was a mistake until I downloaded it from the camera.

Also at HoHoKus that morning I caught an eastbound with a new PL42AC locomotive pushing. NJT started taking delivery of them earlier this year. While they are sharp-looking (IMHO) I hear the crews are less than happy with them, visibility from the cab being one of the bigger issues.

Was back at Bear Mountain, NY on 12/12/06 and shot the CSX #7321 southbound. Probably one of my favorite shots of all. It's my computer desktop at home and both the full and part-time dispatch jobs.

And finally, for now, I was back at Bear Mountain on 12/14/06 but was fogged out. It was clear in NJ when I left and I'm only about 25-30 miles from Bear Mountain. Oh well....this shot of the CSX #5307 leading the Q-410 general freight northbound between Iona Island and the Bear Mountain Bridge still came out far better than I hoped it would.

Here's a few of some older shots I took 10+/- years ago.



Although looking like a desert shot, this was taken in the West Springfield MA yard. A line up of former Guilford Transportation engines, I have no idea what the "UP" is for.

A crossing at grade in West Springfield MA on the old Boston & Albany. It amazed me the number of close calls I saw at this crossing as a large number of cars ignored the crossing gates.

NYS&W Engine 3000 in Utica NY. This one will head north, and actually will travel down the middle of a street through a residential neighborhood (and past the Saranac Brewery, home of Utica Club) on it's way to the yard.

This is probably the speeder club that travels around the US operating their speeders on private or no longer used trackage.

I believe this is a type of heated snow blower. It certainly a blower either way, but I can't remember if its for cleaning or snow blowing purposes.
