If my memory serves me right, these former Guilford locomotives certainly weren't new to the railroad. And from their appearance, were coming off lease and were newly leased by the Union Pacific (UP), but hadn't made it to their railroad yet or repainted.

Very nice. As the author knows, I work in the police department trackside to this line about 400 feet east of where he snapped this pic but the sight is blocked by the train. Quite often the trains that are a mile or two length will stall for 1 to 3 hours blocking traffic in two or three municipalities.

The NYS&W operates between North Bergen NJ (next to Jersey City) and Syracuse NY.

Maybe it was sold to Union Pacific... Last year, Guilford was lettering some of their rolllng stock as Pan Am with the logo of the former great airline as they bought the rights to the name and started a small commuter air line using it but I think it went under already.

Wow, they looked to be in such rough shape I ddin't think a major railroad like Union Pacific would have picked them up.

I did my first rail photography of 2007 this morning in the Bear Mountain, NY area. Shot 24 exposures of 35mm film but only took 1 digital shot. The film will be picked up tomorrow morning and I'll scan and post those tomorrow. For now here is the 1 digital shot I took.



CSX #5358 is leading stacktrain Q-164 southbound by the Bear Mountain Bridge at 10:42 AM, 1/4/07.

OK here are a few accident shots from the Arizona area.



From October 1991, I was called by the trainmaster of the Santa Fe yard here in Phoenix while staffing my model RR club here at the state fair grounds during the state fair. He told me they had a engine "in the pit". I said hmmm this ought to be interesting. And right I was!!! Apparently the earlier in the day a transient got in the cab of ATSF GP35 #2851 and released the brakes. It rolled to the turntable pit and you can see the results. If you know anything about turntables, the end of the rails are there at the edge of the pit. As the engine tilted toward the pit the rail edges punctured the fuel tank and all 2000 some gallons filled the pit and out came Phoenix fire with a hazmat assignment. These are the only 3 shots I have from that day. Thats my friend Duffy Montanyo in the pit looking over the damage.

Last for my posts for tonight is a teaser on what happened on the Santa Fe mainline in August of 1993 near Seligman, Arizona. This is what happens when you don't stop when the train on the next track has derailed. More to come very soon.... -DAvid

In 2002 i had the chance, to drive with the "Transrapid". The magnetic levitation train, witch is actually use in Shanghai to transport people from the airport to the city and back to the airport.

The pic's where taken at the test facility in Lathen / germany. I work for Siemens AG Transportation Systems and we are responsible for all electronic devices inside

the train. As the chief for the product implementation i was invited by the "Transrapid" project, after the installation of the "Transrapid" in Shanghai was completed and the trains and track in Shanghai was gave to the costumer. The drive was a great experience. We drove with a speed of more then 400 km/h.

   

The evening before we have the drive with the train, we had a big party in a great hotel <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Thumbsup' /> <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

   

   

   

   

   

   

Last year, there was a bad crash with the train you can see on the pic's. The train was completly destroyed, when he crashed into a repair train, witch stands on the track. The crashed occured about a human error from a man, witch was responsible for the signals and tracking control in the control center.

23 people died!

What are those blue sheets coming off the lead unit? Are they some type of escape device, such as a slide?

Here is one of my recent photos, taken with my christmas present. It is ConnecticutDOT (CDOT) FL9m #2026 operated by Metro North. Photo was taken in Patterson ,NY on Metro North's Harlem Line. The few remaining FL9s (originally built 1957-1960) were 'retired' a couple of years ago, but were kept, to be used until major mechanical failure.

Nice shot of the FL9. One day I gotta pry myself away from the River Line and go across the river to the M-N line. I want to get an FL9 and the GE P42 that is also painted in that same NH scheme. For now here is a shot taken on Metro-North's Port Jervis Line in Sloatsburg, NY. It's NJT cab car #6022 leading Train #56 eastbound from Port Jervis, NY on 1/10/07. Even though Metro-North owns the line from the division post in Suffern Yard west to Port Jervis, NJT dispatches the line as part of its Main/Bergen County Line and pools equipment with M-N. I worked as a dispatcher on this line for almost a year and should really start shooting trains on this line. West of Suffern there are many great places to take pictures........ <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />
