Denver Metro Fire Apparatus
I know South Metro has taken delivery of two PL Custom medic units also

Not sure on the specific trucks but the Sutphens run between 46-47', the only one locally is 46'7". The Pierce runs about 47'10" for one delivered in the area recently that is pretty close. I see they budgeted another one for 2015, is this their normal replacement cycle or did they move them up? I know all 4 are 2006 and they appear to run first out in their respective stations.

Stopped at the Denver Fire Museum a few years back and bought an Engine 30 T Shirt. On the back it said "Where the Best go to Rest" I took that as it was a slower company where the brothers might go towards the end of their career.

I'm not sure on the specifics on length either but will find out.  The first tower replacement was indeed moved up by one year and needed to replace a reserve 1992 Pierce Lance 75' quint that the department deemed end of life due to extensive repairs needed.  SMFR wants to maintain two reserve aerials so this purchase will allow for a 2006 Sutphen to be the primary reserve followed by the 2000 ALF/LTI quint. 

 

Replacements for South Metro in 2015 also include...

A Pierce Velocity PUC for E42 and I've heard another for E31 later in the year. 

 

A Type III wildland interface engine has already been delivered and is being finished by the shops. It is an International / BME.  It's final home is a debate currently.  It will likely end up at Station 44 until they get a replacement ARFF unit, then it will go to one of the wildland stations.   

 

Two Ford F-550 4x4 crew cabs with toppers are in service as of last week as Wildland 30 and the other as a wildland support vehicle.

 

Two Ford/PL Custom ambulances are going to M41 & M42 this month. 

 

Six Type VI brush trucks will go to bid this spring to replace the aging fleet, specifically the two door cab units.

 

Two Peterbuilt / Pierce water tenders are going to TN45 & TN46 this year. 

 

An Oshkosh T-2500 is being refurbished from the ground up and will replace Red 1.  Red 1 will become Red 3 at Station 44.

 

A Ford F-550 / Oshkosh Stinger is being purchased by the airport authority and will replace Red 2. 

 

A new pick-up, likely a Ford, will be purchased for the new Shift Commander position.  

 

The apparatus committee is also considering their aerial options and not necessarily replacing the remaining towers with mid mounts.  A TDA quint is being researched for Station 32 and would likely end up being a 2018 delivery when their new firehouse is complete. 

 

To the west of South Metro...

Littleton Engine 16's Pierce Dash CF will be quickly followed by a Velocity PUC 105' quint that will become "Ladder 12."  Similar to South Metro, Littleton unexpectedly retired their only reserve aerial, a 1992 Pierce Lance 65' Telesquirt.  The Chief was able to acquire emergency funding to purchase a Pierce demo still on the production line.  LFR was able to customize a few things including painting the aerial ladder black to match their new black over red fleet.  LFR also has two new "Quick Car" pick ups and a new medic in the works for 2015.

Now that the weather is acting like spring here I'll be out getting updated photos.  In the mean time this was a photo of opportunity of Littleton Engine 15 at a house fire.  2014 Pierce Dash CF 650 gallon water tank, 40 gallon foam tank, 1500 gpm.  Engine 16 should be the identical spec.

After speaking with the Chief of Fleet I think the 2015 aerial will go to Tower 34 and it will be another mid-mount tower like the latest one. If approved, the tiller will probably be the last of the four aerials purchased and delivered in 2017 / early 2018. The existing Station 32 is too small to fit a TDA but it's being torn down and re-built with a much larger Station. Station 32 is second in line for replacement and the first Station (31) will be scraped this year and re-built. The 2016 aerial purchase will go to 45's and I was told they're considering a rear-mount tower instead of mid-mount for it. The apparatus group is still discussing pros and cons so nothing is decided on it yet.

This evening I was able to captures some great images of the newest additions to Denver Fire Department's fleet.  The DFD will be celebrating 150 years March 25, 2016 and I'm helping with their history book.  Engine 23 is on the left, Truck 4 in the middle and Engine 3 on the right.  A few guys from the shop were there but none could say why the rigs come striped without numbers from Pierce.
