The area of the County that the station is located in is referred to as Frying Pan....just down the street is Frying Pan Park. No idea how the area got the name.

The new Dash's certainly do look nice. I like the ladder rack on the driver side like the Alexandria Dash's. Alexandria started doing that on Engine 204 and 207 that were delivered in 1999 and have the same set up on Engine 203 and 205 which are a different spec bodywise aside from the ladder rack. The only thing that would be nice that the Fairfax pumpers don't have is rollup doors on the compartments. Will be interesting to see what Fairfax will do once the Dash isn't available anymore. I am anxious for the end of the year when the first Velocity's start rolling appearing. I want to see them with a variety of different body styles before I can tell whether I like the new chassis or not.

428 and the other of the first wave of Dash's are good Engines. Though check out the Alexandria post of mine. I am pretty partial to E207. Everyone just has favorite rigs. E207 and E204 are at the top of my list. And thats not just because 207 was first due at my house from the time they placed it in service to when I moved back to MN.

Ok, now that we pretty much know where the second round of Dash's is going....now I want to figure out where the 3rd wave this fall are going. I still want to guess 420, 416, 412, and well when is the next new station opening?

the only reason i'm partial to engine 28 is because I hang my hat there 10 days a month. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> 28 is a great house on all three shifts with a TON of company pride. Although the Pierces drive great, I personally think that they are too big for the area in which we use them in. In a lot of peoples opinion, engine 10 down the street has the ideal rig. And no I do not mind that you lightened it up a bit, feel free!

Having just spent three years in the Academy as an instructor, who's specialty was teaching Driver/Pump Operator classes, and I can not tell you HOW HARD we tried to get a brand new pumper assigned to the Academy. Using hand-me-down's may seem fiscally responsible, but how am I supposed to truly prepare the recruit firefighter how to use a rig when I can't get anything that closely resembles their daily ride?



Last I heard, our academy may be getting a 1997 Quantum assigned to it near the end of this year, but that's still waiting to be confirmed.



Remember Loudoun also purchased an Academy pumper before it was reassigned into the field.

I agree with Taylor....I am glad to see Fairfax County putting a new engine at the academy. There are many benefits of having the recruits familiar and comfortable with a similar engine that they will be working on.



Loudoun's newer Pierce training engine was re-assigned to the Neersville station because a career crew began staffing Station 16 at Neersville and the volunteers at the station did not have a reliable engine for the station. I have heard that once Loudoun County receives a group of Pierce pumpers that they have ordered (three Dash's due in August), one will be assigned to Neersville. I suspect the training engine will then return to the Training Center, unless another immediate need surfaces.
