So Kevin, when is the next scheduled apparatus order for DC, and do you know what it will consist of?

A large part of my collection was purchased from a GOOD man, John Floyd. I give him FULL credit on his work, although I may miss something. Thanks John. Also Scott Mattson, Warren Jenkins, Michael Schwartzberg, and Mike Sanders. Thanks Guys.

Not looking for dirt...I was wondering if any DC guys know what happened many years ago when the Grumman tower tipped....a Pm is ok if you dont want it public...I was asked a question whether those towers were good rigs or not and havent heard positive or negative, and my only knowledge of them is the pic of the one that tipped.....

The engine room. The guy in the blue jacket is Keith Thomas, current Columbus Ohio FD - was visiting with me. Don't know who the DCFD Boat Jake was...

At the time of our visit, they were still dredging up debris from the Air Florida Flight 90 crash. This was on a small dredger at the DCFD dock.

L-8 tipped in an alley in SE DC. Driver error. 2nd due ladder takes the rear, and with a behemoth like the Grummans were, was a tight fit. IIRC, kind of hard to fully extend either side. Just a big "OOPS" that DCFD didn't need with no spare rigs, or very poor spares, at the time this happened. The LCC extented the aerial over the side that was short jacked. They never had much luck with that rig. On a box @ 1300 Southern Ave, IIRC the rig fell through the parking lot shortly after they received it.

IMO, this rig was way too big for the area served. However, a city council member wanted a big brand new fire apparatus in her area, so L-8 got the Grumman, lost the tiller, and moved from E-25 to E-33, which was just built and opened shortly before the Grummans were purchased, with the 2nd one going to L-10.

Was a very heavy piece of equipment. I got to play with L-10 one day detailed there, and didnt have any complaints with its operation. Just a heavy, cumbersome rig, even with an 8V92TA.

Then again, so are the Aerialscopes we have here in NYC.

Stay safe.
