Here are a couple pics of the Norfolk & Southern #9838 crossing at Delaplane, Va. for its daily trip into the Inland Port. I am also a train buff and seen this train many times crossing but these are the first pics I have taken of it.

3 of 6 remaining ConnecticutDOT FL9m operated by Metro North Commuter railroad. I got the photo during the Open House at the Croton Harmon Shops last week. Originally there were 60 FL9 built 1957-1960 for the New Haven Railroad

Nice shot, Grumpy! Man I love those FL9's, gotta be my favorite locomotive of all time. I hope when MTA's new locos from Brookfield arrive, those six FL9m's get a good home (if the railroad doesn't retain them for work train or excursion/railfan purposes).

My very good friend who moved from our town in New Jersey to southwest Georgia 19 years ago also refers to Norfolk Sourthern as the Norfolk & Southern and he says that's the way "folks in his neck of the woods refer to it" -- why is that?



Interestingly, many railfans here in the north refer to NS as "N--- Southern" because of their tactics after they took over Conrail. The "N---" refers to a now defunct political party that ran Germany from 1933 to May 1945.
