DCFD Photos, old or new

Can anyone help me with what Seagrave apparatus (engines, trucks, rescues) DC has on order. When they are due? Where will they be assigned?

A friend of mine told me that DC has on order 4 Seagrave Engines, 3 Rescue Squad, and 2 Tillers. Hope this helps.

Shoop - I heard 2 engines, 1 TDA, 1 rescue. Lots of rumors, but no real confirmation. I'l also looking for assignments. Keep you ears open!

From people that have seen the Trucks sitting on the factory floor at Seagrave the two TDAs are going to:



Truck Co. 13 and Truck Co. 16.



Anything else is anyones guess?

Thanks for the updates guys. If they are going to 13 and 16 that is a surprise. I thought for sure that Truck 2 would get one of them.

In the early 1940’s, Washington DC was provided ambulance service by three hospitals and the city health department, who each operated one ambulance. DCFD Rescue Squad 1 had an ambulance assigned to it that ran citywide ambulance calls if the four hospital ambulances were unavailable.



The Carpenters Union donated an ambulance to the DCFD during WWII, which went to Rescue Squad 1. This is the RS-1’s ambulance c.1947, presumably the donated one. It appears to be a 1943 Cadillac. Photographer unknown.

They're not delivered yet, but they are at Interstate in Hagerstown.

“Contemporary” referred to the previous post of an image taken in an era when the DCFD ambulance was used only in an emergency – a last resort, over and against the present-day service. That U-Haul sign sort of epitomizes today's EMS, which is used for many-many non-emergencies. The year 2007 saw 122,249 EMS incidents, of which 59,737 were charitably deemed non-critical.

Note the the one in front is made up of both "orange & white" AND "red and white" parts....



And there was a retirement party 2 weeks ago. More to come as the 25,000 club moves along.
