The difference between the Air Units is, Mobile Air Unit 1 is brand new and one of 8 that was purchased via Homeland Security funding. The other jurisdictions receiving them were Fairfax County, VA..Prince William County, VA..Loudoun County, VA..City of Alexandria, VA..Arlington County, VA..Prince Georges County, MD..and Montgomery County, MD........these units are all built the same, but pained for each jurisdiction.
Air Unit 1 has a twin, Air Unit 2, and they were purchased a couple of years ago to fulfill their needs for air units.
Just to add to some of SLIPPERYSAM's posts i have the following for you:
Brush Unit: Addition 90 GPM/320gwt/40A Foam
TAU 1: Addition: 2005 Ford F-550 150B Foam, 500PK
Thanks again for the updates! I noticed the door emblem on TAU 1 is diffrent then all the other DC rigs. Is this a new acquisition from another department?
The Ford looks like a Late 60's/Early 70's Ford C WLF 750/300/55 Foam 391ci Ford Gas V-8. The USAF had literally scores of them, our designation was A/S32P-12. The pressure chart ( Chrome Square Fixture) to the left of the pump panel is one of many spotting features. Sience DC is a ward of the US Gov't, they either got it new or used through the DRMO System.
For anyone who might know, is that Ford C engine possibly the one they inherited when they took over firefighting duties at St. Elizabeth's Hospital? I know they had an engine on-site.

On the two-door Ford "C" engine I have as follows. Its an ex Navy (not sure from exactly where) 1973 Ford C-750, WLF, 1988 KME 750gpm/500gwt. I carry it as the department parade piece shop S-110. Do not belive it ever ran in DC St E's included. The last piece at St E's was the 1985 Spartan Gladiator, E\-One 1250/500 known as E34. Once the St E's dept was defunct the Spartan became shop S-150 re-assigned to E24. I have that as disposed of in 2000.
You got it. The C750 was never in service in DCFD. It was used as a pub-ed vehicle, then disposed of a few years ago.
The emblem on TAU1 is our official door emblem from the 1970s. I am not going to print why it is on a brand new vehicle (I know why), only that I wish it was on our wagon as well!
