Bruce,

I think I was the one that said about Engine 16. I think I read on the watchdesk about that information. They stated that because of its high mileage, and wear and tear they were going to get rid of it over an older engine.

Engine 16 & Engine 4 were glider kits and for a while, Engine 16 practically ran everything in the twn out of headquarters with the duty crew. Then it was moved to station 3 and Engine 3 was moved to headquarters.

Engine 16 is ran as a paramedic engine out of station 3. Since most high priority EMS calls warrant two units, engine 16 responds alot more than the other engines in the city. When engine 16 blows up or breaks down its usualy replaced with engine 4. 16 is newer however since its career staffed it runs alot more than all the other units.

I stumbled across some in-service training in 2005 or 06, not sure which. This is a shot of Rescue 7 with open compartments.

And Tower 5 at the same training with aerial up. I have heard this apparatus also respond as "Truck 5" on the radio, so take your pick. Also a shot of the mascot from the crew cab door.

Slow to get on this thread but heres what I have and know. The KMEs are to be maybe E16 & 17 (recall the ol' Sutphen). To go away will be E3-1 the '78 Seagrave that is essentially a rerserve. E2 the Arrow is well liked and last I heard was to be the next "reserve" if you will. There is talk of changing unit numbers to coorespond with the stations just as the medic units do. In other words E3 & 4 at 15th Street will become E1 & 1-1. E9 on Dorchester St will be E2, E16 at 74th to E3, E12 at 130th to E4 with E1 & 2 @ West OC to become E 5 and 5-1. Other rigs will likely follow the same pattern if implemented. This is also how the Salisbury FD the closest combination dept does things. Last spring there were rumors of replacing E2, 9 & 16 with E2 to become 2-1. Much has happened since though

Last winter and spring brought a saga as the city sought to combine the Dept of Emergency Services, Division of Fire & EMS (the ambos) with the OCVFCo. After some "issues" and mud slinging with meetings some public some not everyone kissed and made up. Both entities since June I think are being merged with Chief 50 in overall command but as an employee of the City. I think he gets paid like a $1 -part of last spring's saga. As I have read they are to change their title to the Ocean City Fire Department at least that was what was reported late last summer. No doubt low bidder was the latest engine order consideration as its now by the City not the VFCo. FYI the city essentially paid for several of the last orders anyway E3, 1, To 5 & 6 I think.

Was in Ocean City this week for the yearly vacation. The 2 KME's replace Engine's 4 &16. The first 3 days I was here Engine 4 was running out of Station 3, with the paid duty crew, then on my third or fourth day here Engine 4 was transferred down to HQ and Engine 16 was transferred up to Station 3 with the duty crew. Engine 12 from what it seems is still collecting dust at Station 4, it's only ran once maybe twice the 6 days Ive been here so far.

Here's a few road shots I got of Engine 4, 4 and 16 are identical so if you want to see E16 just close your eyes and change the numbers on the trucks. Saw 16 in person but no camera, go figure, they are very sharp looking rigs, they even have roto-rays. Major zoom was used so bear with me
