I have nothing to back this up but looking on the Crimson site recently I found a truck in progress label as "crimson lo-pro demo". Looking at that truck one can only assume that it was intended for Chicago <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='^_^' /> . Color, shade of red with black over, no pump, no aerial waterway, front bumper design and color, painted wheels among other items. I am just guessing but it sure looks like Crimson wanted this to be the next ladders for the CFD.

Nice catch. And I agree w/ you, there's nothing to back up your idea of being a CFD truck, however in my own opinoin, the biggest thing that throws it off from being a Chicago truck is the high-side compartments on both sides (not that they can't go to that style, it's just not common) and the ladder board signs.

Crimson wanted the Venue for Engines and Trucks, That's why many Didn't bid after seeing the Crimson Spec.
The article says that the bids were opened for the 3rd time back in February with E\-One, Pierce, Crimson and Ferrera bidding and coming in that order in terms of lowest to highest bid. Contract would be for at least 30 units. So I guess your right, IF they go with the lowest bidder, E\-One will be awarded the contract.
Engines 92 and 23 along with tower ladder 5 were all an emergency purchase. I know the tower was involved in an accident and totaled but I am not sure about the engines.

Tower 5's accident was back in 2001 or 2002 I can't remember if they had an E\-One or HME before they got the ALF. Funny thing about that also is Tower 5 and Engine 23 are in the same house and just like Crimson Alf made 3 or 5 more engines thinking they were going to get into Chicago, but that never paned out and the other engines are in Balto County now.

Truck 61,Tower ladder 5 was using one of three 1988 E/Ones however their E/One had survived pretty much intact and it was eventually reassigned to Tower Ladder 23 on the Northwest side. Tower Ladder 23 did have an accident that had clipped and damaged the basket a couple of years later however, I'm not completely sure if they were using Tower Ladder 5's old rig or if they had been using a spare Tower Ladder at the time of the accident. That may be the accident that you had in mind as that accident did alot of damage.
As for the ALF Engines most of them did end up in Baltimore County however I think that one of them may have ended up in East Chicago, Indiana.

Two of the ALF engines they built for Chicago were bought by the East Chicago Fire Department, Indiana. Here's East Chicago Engine 1.
