I was told by one of the Tower Engineers that they'll park the rig a special way on an incline, then stow the ladder. Apparently how ever they do it doesn't stress the hydraulics and gives the driver a better view of traffic signals. The reason only a few of the Tower Companies do it is because their bay height allows for it, some of the stations are just too small to have the basket up.

As requested here is the Arvada Fire Fire Protection District. AFPD is combination paid/volunteer and runs out of 8 firehouses. All houses are fully staffed by paid members, then staffing is supplemented with volunteers. The only way to get a paid position is to have served as a volunteer. All of the following Arvada photos were taken by fellow photographer/buff Rick Luebke.

Engine 1 & Engine 2 are the only ALF's in the almost entirely Pierce fleet at AFPD... most FF's will tell you it was the biggest mistake they ever made. Engine 2 is one of a few "Rescue Engines" at Arvada and actually tows a dive rescue boat when needed.

Haz-Mat 4 is painted this unique color after serving initially at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Facility nearby. That facility is undergoing major clean up and shut down which meant it's full time FD was no longer needed. They also had a yellow/black Ferrara Inferno that ended up back east somewhere.

   



Reserve Squrt 4, serves as the second choice reserve aerial for the district.

The Old Truck 6 this rig is for sale on texas fire trucks right now. If it doesn't sell they'll keep it as a reserve.

Engine 7 operates this Pierce Contender, a near twin to Engine 3.

   



Brush 7 1998 Dodge Ram 4x4 with homemade skid.

   



Engine 8 Pierce Dash rescue engine, check out the extra long compartment space on this piece. It must corner like a bus.

STO Safety & Training Officer is housed at Station 6 and drives this rig.

   



Battalion 1's new Suburban. I'm not sure if it still works this way or not, but Arvada has/had three battalion chief's (one per shift) who each got their own take home car. A, B & C shift respectively had Battalion's 1, 2 & 3. The BC could choose to sleep at Station 1 or sleep at home if he/she lived in district.

I think you're correct, I saw a photo of it some time ago with new lettering but I can't remember where that was. Here's shot of it as RFFD Engine 3, Photo by Michael Block.

You are all correct. PPPL operations are coordinated by the Department of Energy. I don't have a photo but Mike has one on his site.

It's irritating to me that there's no number plate on the front or engineer side of the rig.
