Are the Ground Zero pins that were being referred to that Chief Billy was wearing, are those totally exclusive to FDNY, custom made and only available from FDNY?
Would it be possible that pin is made by a company that sells it to anyone, including the FDNY??
Just an honest question....I don't know the background or even a pin existed.

Sorry, wrong compartment door. Look at the roll up door. Where Truck 7's decal was, it is lighter than the rest of the compartment. They were the only one with that size of decal on that compartment. They had the same decal one each side.

I spent 16 years at 15 Engine and the only Mack Picture that we had on the wall was the A Model E-15 had. I'm gonna have to research this some.

I dont remember who sent me the roster, but here is the info on the B model for E15. one of 6 delivered. I remember someone telling me that one of these later went to the Metro so they could have a dedicated pump to test the standpipes in the system. if I remember right there was a pic of it in a yard posted here a long time ago. I also remember that my memory is not what it once was!

How or Why did they spec a Sutphen-Pirsh? Why not a Pirsh with a Cinci-Cab. I know this rig was one of a kind.

I am guessing it was an old tiller with a new tractor put under it not spec that way as a new piece.......

Hi Shoop,
These are all great photos. One question, did the DCFD shops ever paint a white stripe along the middle of this 1957 Mack pumper, as they did with the other apparatus of that era? Was this the only Mack "B" in service with DCFD?

Thanks Kevein.As for Snyder saying the Shop installed the Metal Roof.. NOT.Also Snyder mentions the Mack at Metro. It wasn't a DC MAck. It had a Hemi in it. If I recall the story correctly these B Models came in with Air Brakes and they were Speced with Juice Brakes. So in our Shops wisdom they made Mack retrofit juice Brakes and never looked at Mack again for Apparatus.

Question for the DC guys. Do the Pierce and Seagrave pumpers purchased in the past all come from a standard pumper spec? If so what is the wheel base and overall length of the rig? Thanks in advance....
I never shot much in DC except for the special rigs even though I lived in NOVA for 14 years, worked downtown all that time and spend about two months a year in town. I should remedy that.

Is this what you are looking for? The is from DCFD Seagrave spec.
Within these categories the following specific items shall be included:
Wheelbase shall be 163".
Overall height not to exceed 112"
Overall length not to exceed 340"
The top of the hose body shall be as low as possible, but shall not exceed 66" from the top of the rear step.
Entire cab shall tilt.
Seating capacity shall be provided for six (6) personnel (including driver).
Rear axle gearing shall allow a top speed of approximately 65 miles an hour.
GVW rating shall be a minimum of 44,000 lbs.

I was told by oldtimers this was one of 3 made. Whether rejected due to spec or $$ issues, DCFD picked up the Sutphen/Pirsch. While not seen in these pics, the DCFD shops added an extra seat on the Chauffeur side of the rig when DCFD ran 5 men and an officer.
Was a unique piece, no doubt.

Thanks for posting. I got a text on the crash this morning, and have been waiting to see the damage.
Engine 1 is back in their frontline unit... finally!
Also, their station is pretty packed. The new T2 is in the station as well (not sure which one being used right now though). Ambo 1 is parked outside, New Truck 2 is in it's spot and TAU is all the way against the back wall between both T2s.
They got a call for TAU today, so I guess they had to get 2 drivers plus 2 tiller drivers to move the trucks just to get the TAU out (assuming everybody was in the station).
