What's a "yin?"

More "northern speak" ... similiar to "youse guys" ... or as I prefer, "y'all".

Quote:Good call there Roto-Ray. I'm from PA and haven't cut all my roots yet. I don't like Y'all !

To further clarify, I believe it is spelled "Yuins", at least that's the way my Mother-in-Law says it. She's a side-hill-runner from Grampian and says all kinds of odd stuff. Could just be a geographical difference, maybe Bruce is from another area of the Commonwealth. "Youse guys" is eastern NY, mostly the City. We say "You guys" in WNY. And remember, Y'all is singular, "All Y'all" is plural!!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

Quote:The Velocity is considered a step up from the Arrow XT. Velocity is the top of the line Pierce chassis.

Not by those of us who have bought XT's!

We are about to place an Arrow XT in service and don't consider it any cheaper then the Velocity. It comes down to how you spec your rig in my opinion.

I have known Bruce for about 20 years, after living in The Great State of UnFairTax Co., VA for about the same amount of time, He still sounds like like my in-laws from Altoona alothough Bruce is from JJJJJJJJohnstown, PA.

Sorry Bruce could not resist the temptation, also do still have the "3rd P51" ?

For those that know me my contempt for the Velocity and Impel is second to none so a unbiased opinion is not likely but here are my thoughts.

My department owns 2 Dash's and 1 Saber which have performed very well. The Dash's have a good deal of plastic control panels much like the Velocity and the Saber the switches are mounted in a more solid substance(sorry I didn't tear it apart to see what) with the Saber having less room and horsepower being the biggest differences.

Now after driving the Arrow XT in my opinion the construction of the cab is laid out better and there is less plastic parts in the cab than any of the Pierce chassis. It gave a solid ride and was fairly quiet and handled well and it had plenty of room for metal map boxes and any other features that needed to be installed. I liked it better than our Dash's !!!

Now for the Velocity I think most people don't like the looks, mirrors and the plastic on the inside not necessarily in that order. The mirrors are really the only thing that can be changed. My opinion for what it is worth is that Pierce is trying to make things easier but making built in map boxes and cubby holes for things because that is what people are asking for but they did not have to re-invent the whole truck to get the things that the new chassis does well.

Sorry about the long reply, lots of words for a few short thoughts...

The new Velocity rescue is going to Rescue 426 on Edsall Road. The new Velocity hazmat rig I have heard is a replacement for the Hazmat Support rig at 440. Perhaps once it goes in services someone can confirm that.

The Pierce Mack/Granite tanker that was suppose to go to Station 442 at Wolftrap when it is built is in service instead at Station 439. It is still labled for Wolftrap, however, it is sporting Tanker 439 markings. Station 442 at Wolftrap has been placed on hold due to the economy. The County has the land at Beulah Road and Leesburg Pike but construction is probably delayed a few years.

The bond issue for a new Station 412 went through and that project should start soon. There is another bond issue, not sure where in the process it is, to replace Station 404.

The Washington Metrorail system is in the process of working with the MWAA to expand the metro out to Dulles airport and beyond into Loudoun County. The route will go right through Tysons Corner which is precipitating a major redevelopment of Tysons Corner. Rumor is that along with an urban density type development in Tysons Corner will come several new stations, the current number being discussed is two. It is anticipated that developers will pay for construction of any new stations much like Alexandria did with the new Station 209 in Potomac Yard.

I will post pictures of Rescue 439 Tanker 439 and some shots of rigs at 412 when I get back to MN.

Dave a couple questions if I may..

With new squad going to R426, where is their current Pierce Dash rig going?

Is HM Support 440 still the '03 Spartan/SVI? If so, why a replacement already?

Thanks in advance.

I am guessing to the reserve pool for the Dash. Yes HM Support 440 is the rig you mention. Probably, with the amount of equipment carried the 03 can be used for reserve. I will see if I can find out.

Bruce, thanks for the info. His newphew is a member here at Firepics, he's a cop up in MA.

I have had a few email exchanges with Sarge 619 on fireengines.net.

If I can help in any way with roto-ray questions, let me know.

You got any contact info on how to get one? We've been throwing the idea around of putting one on our engine. Thanks for any help.

For those of you keeping up with the Ffx fleet. Here are a few taken of the new Battalion Chief & EMS Supervisor F350 trucks. F350's are now being used to keep everything using diesel. Sorry about the inside shots. These were taken at the shop. BC401 & BC407 are in service, but they are harder to catch up with.
