Why are the Rescue Trucks yellow? Thanks in advance. Rick

I recall that it was a visibility thing, as well as somewhat of a tradition. Golden's rescues frequently run up into Clear Creek canyon on Highway 58 on auto accidents. It is (was? - I don't know if they widened it) narrow and has lots of tunnels.
Denver had 2 yellow rescues: A 1973 Mack CF/Gerstenslager (retired to reserve in 1983) and a yellow 1971(?) Ford C/Gerstenslager that ran as the water rescue until just a couple of years ago.
