Are those two quantums different trucks or just different front bumpers?
The volunteer Quantum has a light tower ontop of the cab, the ladders are mounted on an electric raising/lowering rack which allowed us to have bigger compartments on the officer's side and we carry extrication tools(Not a rescue engine per NOVA manual.). Pump and tank size were the same i believe.
Just a quick update,
After many months of being MIA Brush 422 has come back the station stripped of our decals and equipment and has been taken out of service for good. Ending a nearly 20+ years service and being the first and last Brush truck to run out of 422. I believe the plan is to sell her off. The newest county engines should be going in service very soon. Saw 435 had thiers in the station the other day.

Thanks for your additions Matt! 22 has always run with classy rigs. The newest Pierce Dash is one of the best rigs in all of NOVA. Peace Nate
Drove by FS10 as they were getting a Box. Quickly pulled the car over and snapped a few. I like how there is only "10" on the rigs, not "410". The 3rd picture shows the Truck 10 Boss giving me the "Rock On" hand gesture!
Stay safe Nate
Nate,
Great stuff. In addition to being a volunteer in Centreville, I am also apart of the county's explorer program and with our ride along program, I usually ride at 10 on B shift. Its all good except for being a white cloud. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Anyway, a little info and FYI for you guys on apparatus. Engine 410 (the Yellow one {or "The Bullet" to some [fastest Engine in the county]}) is still up in Wisconsin. The truck was sent back up there as well about a month or so ago. They said that it will be about 6 months or so for the truck to get back, and when it does it will be like getting a brand new fire truck. They are giving it a new paint job and I believe doing some work on the stick, then it will be sent back. Before it left it was stripped of everything county owned (Radios, CAD, etc.) so they will have to do that all over again. The Engine is running what I believe is Old Engine 426 (County Vehicle #-7554). No Word on how long the engine will be, although I expect about the same, maybe longer then the truck, but we'll see. The Truck is running Former Truck 429 (V-7041(?)). Last I was there (Mid-April) they only had the Left Buckets door labeled "410", because they messed up on the numbers for the right bucket side. If you look closely in the third picture, you can kind of see the top of the "4" on the other side. I don't know if they are going to put a "4" on the right side of the cab or not. Finally, the New Engines are starting to go in service. Talking with the driver from 38-A at my dads retirement party last night, he said they put the new engine in service on the 4th. So now if you need to update your roster, V-7054 is now in reserve status. I imagine that now just about all of them if they already aren't, should be going in service shortly. Enough of my ranting... Ben
Thanks for the info Ben!
Stay safe Nate

Here are some that I posted in my topic but I will add them here as well: Tysons Corner (taken at the County Shops) 2009 Pierce Ladder Truck
Is Pierce going to repair the damage to the mirrors? OMG! Somebody told me they are supposed to look like that?? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Ben, thanks for the update, especially on 410's rigs.

Last week I spent the better part of a day at Fairfax Station 40. A huge station...great crews...gracious hosts...special thanks to Battalion Chief Buckley...a real gentleman.
On order - Pierce Quantum to replace F426.
Rumor is 2 trucks(Likely 424 and 436) and 3 engines will soon be on order.
Truck Company 410 (Bailey's Crossroads) will be quartered at Fire Station 28 (Seven Corners) at night (approximately 21:00 - 0700 hrs) for security reasons for an undetermined length of time (2+ years?) until a more permanent solution is agreed upon for the repair/replacement of Fire Station 10 where the apparatus bay was severely damaged during this past February's blizzards. It is my understanding that Fairfax County Government, the Fire and Rescue Department in particular, is moving forward to take over the existing property and either build a new station on-site and set-up a more permanent temporary station further east on Columbia Pike near Moncure Avenue or maintain the existing temporary facility and build a new firehouse new on the property at Moncure Avenue and Columbia Pike. If a new station is built, it will have to be very "green" to be in compliance with the wishes of Fairfax County Government (FS41 was the first built to this design spec.)
Wow, I'm amazed they are going to replace the Foam unit at 426 with a Quantum. The Crash truck isn't all that old, and I'm sure doesn't get used as much as it should.
I too am baffled by this new development, unless they replace E 426 with a pumper like E 403 which has foam capacity and then move E 426 current Pierce to another company with an older Dash. I am a little surprised that they are replacing 3 pumpers, not surprised by the two truck companies. Very surprised by the discussion of a Quantum.

Thanks for the update SrFrOfficial, I was wondering what was going to happen at 410.
No problem on providing that info. Word is that E410 and T410 will not be back from Pierce until late September. Also, I was able to confirm that a Quantum is on order to replace Foam 426's E\-One although I really don't know why. |
