Having seen them up close and personal I assure you they are definitely longer AND wider. I honestly don't think it is a perception issue (though I could be wrong). I have a friend who is currently assigned to a county company (as a driver) currently using one of the new Velocity's and he was surprised at the difference. Engine 410 was also at the apparatus shop when I was there (getting work done following the collapse at FS10) and the size difference between the two was considerable.
